Mrs. Bates Dies At 104

Mrs. Lucy Bates, 104. of 801 Woodlawn Road, died today at 6 a.m. in her home.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal CHurch, Ladies Auxiliary of Argonne Post 33 American Legion, Toronto chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceant, Steubenville chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of 1812.
Surviving are two sons, John C. Bates of Richmond and Harry G. Bates of Steubenville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bates was born March 4, 1874 in Richmond, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Evaline Cunningham Crew. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Bates, and by a son, James H. Bates.
The body has been removed to the McClave-Chandler Mills Funeral Home, downtown, where arrangements are incomplete.
