Miss Jane McDowell, Retired Florist, Dies

Miss Jane Walker McDowell, 86, of 309 Belleview Blvd., a life resident of Steubenville, died at 6:30 a.m. today in her home. She had been in failing health the past several months.
Miss McDowell was well-known in the community as a florist, having been in business as mcDowell Florists at 181 N. 4th St. for 35 years, retiring in 1946
Also Former School Teacher
Miss McDowell was graduated in 1892 from Steubenville High School and taught school for seven years before becoming associated with Miss Agnes L. Wells in the florist business. Upon the retirement of Miss Wells, she became the sole operator of the business.
Miss McDowell was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
She held membership in the Steubenville Woman's Club; the Laura E. McGowan Circle of Kings Daughters; the Steubenville Country Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Steubenville Business and Professional Woman's Club and the Sons of Veteran's Auxiliary.
Survivors included a brother. John McDowell of Steubenville; two nieces, Mrs. Andrew (Janet) Miller and Mrs. William (Mary) Rhinehart, both of Steubenville; six great nephews and three great nieces.
Native of Steubenville
Miss McDowell was born April 19, 1875, in Steubenville, a daughter of the late William and Nancy McConnell McDowell.
Friends may call at the McClave Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the McClave Chapel. The Rev. Mr. C. Sheldon Hastings will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
