DEATH SUMMONS MISS IDA ODELL

Served Public Schools for 36 Year Period

Miss Ida Helen Odell, for 36 years a teacher and principal in the Steubenville public schools, died at her home, 1028 Lincoln Avenue, Thursday at 8:45 p.m. Her last illness covered a period of three months.
Miss Odell was born in Steubenville, March 21, 1886, the daughter of Jacob A. Odell and Isabelle Bair Odell, members of early and prominent families in this community and both deceased.
She graduated from Steubenville High School in 1904, the first four-year class to graduate. She attended the Normal class here and completed her education at Kent College and Ohio University at Athens. She began her teaching career in 1905 at Washington School of which building she was later principal.
She served at Washington building for 25 years and was then transferred to Roosevelt School where she was principal.
She was a member of the First Christian Church. She came of Revolutionary ancestry and was at one time a member of D.A.R.
Surviving are these brothers and sisters, all of this city, Edward J., J. Franklin, James G., Mrs. Anna Caddes, Miss Bess L. Odell.
A woman of Christian character, fitted by educational and natural attainments for the teaching profession, Miss Odell endeared herself to pupils and parents alike. She was rated high as an educator by the various superintendents. Her death which closed a praiseworthy educational career, will be a matter of deep regret in the community.
