Mrs. R. M'Gowan Taken By Death Widely Known Resident Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Helen C. McGowan, wife of Robert R. McGowan, died at the family residence, 1037 La Belle Avenue, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Her illness which had always been serious, covered a period of five months, and during three months of that time she was a patient at Ohio Valley hospital.
Mrs. McGowan was born at Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Edwin R., and Ella A. Fish Butler, who are both deceased. She was married to Mr. McGowan, February 9, 1918, and several months later Mr. McGowan went overseas in World War No. 1. She was a graduate of Emma Willard school at Troy, New York, and was attending Smith college when she left school to be married.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, the Query Club, the Kings Daughters, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her desires were for activity in all these organizations, but ill health for several years prevented it. Surviving are her husband, and two children, Jean, wife of Lieut. Watson C. Marshall of Pittsburgh in U. S. Navy; Robert R., Jr., recently at Ohio State University who will join the U.S. Air Corps Monday. A daughter, Helen, died in 1929.
Mr. McGowan was a woman of charming personality who had endeared herself to hosts of friends. She was ever a cultured gentlewoman. Her death will be a matter of regret to acquaintances in many circles of church and club endeavor. Friends are asked to call at the McClave Funeral Home.
