MRS. ELIZABETH McCUNE SUMMOND BY DEATH

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann McCune of Brilliant, died June 1 at 7:45 a.m. at the Ohio Valley Hospital. She had been in failing health for two years and seriously ill since Monday night.
She was born January 29, 1863, at Hollidays Cove, the daughter of James and Mary Jane Knox Purdy. Her parents were early and influential residents of that community and were of revolutionary ancestry. She was married to Samuel J. McCune September 20, 1884 and he died April 3, 1942.
These children survive, Joseph C., a research department director at the Westinghouse air brake works, resident at Edgewood, Pa.; Mary J., at home, a teacher in Brilliant High School; James E., connected with the Chicago University Press; four grandchildren, First Lieut. Samuel K. McCune, 516 Field Artillery at Camp Shelby, Mississippi; Thompson B. McCune, student at Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire; Mary Lucie McCune, student at Wooster College, now entering the Waves; Duncan C. McCune, former Wooster College student, in training with the signal corps at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
Mrs. McCune was an eminent Christian woman, ever a gentle woman, and active in many lines of church, civic and patriotic endeavor. She was a charter member of Brilliant Presbyterian Church, and many times president of the Women's Missionary Society and was treasurer several years; for several years treasurer of Steubenville Presbyterial in which society she had held other offices; active in the Ladies' Aid society; teacher in the Sunday School for half a century; member of the Women's Bible class for 25 years; a Red Cross chairman in World War I; for many years chairman of relief work during the depression.
She served on the woman's board of Ohio Valley Hospital, was a member of the board of trustees of Jefferson County Home for Aged Women; was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. SHe had endeared herself to many friends in the community where she lived and her passing to all will be a matter of regret.
