Miss Linch, Retired City Teacher, Dies

Miss E. Core Linch of Martha Manoe, retired teacher and supervisor of Steubenville Public Schools, whose career spanned parts of a six decades, was dead on arrival Friday at 10:35 a.m. at Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville.
She was known during her early career for her work with foreign students at Grant School.
Until 1918, both foreign and American children at Grant were taught in the same classes. Miss Linch introduced the two groups to give non-English speaking children an opportunity to learn the language before they were put in classes with other children.
Miss Linch left Grant School to become supervisor of city elementary schools in 1926. At the same time she was appointed director of the Steubenville Normal College.
She continued to serve the school system until the late 1960's
She was a graduate of Miami Univeristy of Ohio, a member of the Fifth Street United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Daughters of American Revolution and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Woman's Club of Steubenville, Jefferson County Historical Association and Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association.
She also organized the Steubenville Association of Childhood Education.
Surviving are a nephew and three nieces.
She was born in Steubenville, a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Tabler Linch. Two brothers, Harry and William Linch and a sister Mrs. Margaret Cope, preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the McClave-Chandler-Mills Funeral Home, downtown, from noon-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday; services, 11 a.m. Monday, McClave Chapel; the Rev. Henry F. King; Union Cemetery, Steubenville.
