Miss Cunningham Dies at Hospital




Miss Catharine Dorcas Cunningham, 416 Adams Street, died at Ohio Valley Hospital, today at 10:15 a.m. She had been ill one week following a stroke.


She was born at the Cunningham homestead on West Market Street, the daughter of Hugh H. and Harriett McCauslen McElroy Cunningham, both deceased. Her father was an early owner of Buena Vista. She came of revolutionary and pioneer settlers ancestry. She attended historic Hukills school.


She took an art course under Charles P. Filson and was quite a talented artist, being employed at Filson's studio sixteen years, after which time she retired from active work.


Surviving are a brother Hugh H., at the Cove and a sister, Mrs. E. M. Stark at Wintersville. Deceased brothers and sisters are: William, John, Harry, Sara and Mary.


She was a member of Two Ridge Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of American Revolution, and for years an officer in the Daughters of War of 1812, in whose work she took an intense interest. She was interested in historical --- of this locality. Her death will be a matter of regret to many friends who held her in high esteem.
