Charles Scott Parks
Following is a short story about Charles Scott Parks who was born August 11, 1873, on a farm between Cadiz and Steubenville in Jefferson County, Ohio. Mr. Parks received only an eighth grade education before going to work. He worked for 15 years for a number of railroads, including the Hocking Valley and the B&O, as a Telegrapher.
After working on the railroad for 19 years he went back to farming and he and Ella Dubble Parks his wife operated two farms near Columbus, Ohio.
After nineteen years he and Mrs. Parks divorced and he opened a filling station on the west side of Columbus, Ohio.
His love of poetry started at that time and he began to write regularly, a collection of poems about the war, farming, and railroads and the men who worked for them. Many of his poems were published by local newspapers and the Columbus Citizen.
He died November 7, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio. His grave has not been found but I think he is buried in Jefferson County, perhaps in Unionport Cemetery with his parents John Parks born 2/18/1832-died 1893, in Wayne Township, and Eliza Margaret Scott born 1834 died 1904. John was the son of Robert Parks and Mary Hedges Parks. Robert was the son of Laban who came to Belmont, Ohio in 1798 when he married Catharine Coleman.
