WILL OF ELIHU CRANE
written 6 Aug 1816, probated 20 Aug 1823

It appearing to the Probate Court that on the 20th day of August AD 1823 the last Will and Testament of ELIHU CRANE deceased was duly admitted to Probate and Record in the Court of Common Pleas of Hamilton County Ohio, and the record of said Will was afterwards by law transferred to the Probate Court of said County, and that the original Record of said Will was destroyed in the burning of the Court House on March 29th AD 1884, but that the original Will together with the endorsement thereon and the Probate thereof upon the Journal of said Court was preserved; It is now ordered by the Probate Court in its own motion that the Record of said Will and the Probate thereof be and the same is hereby restored from said original Will and endorsement as provided by Statute in the words and figures following, to wit, State of Ohio, Hamilton County, SS Hamilton Common Pleas, Be it remembered that on the day and year aforesaid the last Will and Testament of Elihu Crane, late of this County deceased, was this day duly presented to the Court for Probate and Record clothed in the words and figures following, to wit, In the Name of God, Amen!
I ELIHU CRANE of the Township of Sycamore, County of Hamilton and State of Ohio, being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, Blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say)
First I will that all my just debts and funeral charges by paid.
Second I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife PHEBE CRAIN all the movable property of which she was possessed at the time of our marriage that may be found in being at the time of my death, and I further will that she my said wife have a comfortable dwelling room and good sufficient boarding for herself as long as she remains my widow, and comfortable and sufficient boarding for her son WILLIAM CRAIN until he arrive at the age of twenty-one years, provided she so long remains my widow.
Third I give and bequeath unto my four eldest sons CYRUS CRAIN, ELIHU CRAIN, DAVID CRANE and JAMES CRAIN, and to my eldest daughter ABIGAIL MEGIE the sum of one dollar each.
Fourth I give and bequeath unto my daughter NANCY JONES the sum of Twenty-five dollars.
Fifth I give and bequeath unto my daughter POLLY MITCHELL the sum of Twenty dollars to be paid to them and each of them within eighteen month after my death.
Sixth I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter SUSANNAH CRAIN the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, the one half to be paid to her when she arrives at eighteen years of age and the other half within three years thereafter.
Seventh I give bequeath and devise to my youngest son OLIVER CRAIN all my other property whether real or personal not otherwise disposed of to him his heirs and assigns forever, the right of [?] to be vested in him when the other legacies herein before mentioned shall be completely paid or the payment thereof tendered, however nothing herein contained shall be construed as to prevent his selling or disposing of the sums] when my wife may be entitled to further support from the sums provided he obtain her consent thereunto.   Further I nominate and appoint my son OLIVER CRAIN and BENAJAH AYERS my Executors of this my last Will and Testament.  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen [6 Aug 1816].
