Col. Hopkins Died in East
Body of Former Cincinnatian
to Be Buried Here.
The body of Col. L. C.
Hopkins, a former resident of Cincinnati, who died Monday at Englewood,
N.J., will arrive here to-night for burial Wednesday in Spring Grove.
Col.
Hopkins was the president of the first Board of Health of Cincinnati
and
was a member of the U. S. Sanitary commission. He was for eight years
president
of the Harmonie society, which it is said, originated the May
festivals,
it being a coincident that the festival will open on the day of his
funeral.
He was long a drygoods merchant in this city and during the war
supplied
the army with goods. Afterwards he went into the real estate business
and
founded Elmwood and Norwood and presented Hopkins park to the city. He
then engaged in the insurance business in New York, where he took an
active
interest in Republican politics. F. W. Hopkins of New York is his son,
and L. G. Hopkins of this city is his nephew.
