Almost seventy-five years ago, Carlos H. Gould, a devoted member of the Church envisioned a congregation of the Christian Church on Walnut Hills.  Largely, through his efforts thirty-four members of Christian Churches were assembled and on May 5, 1881 agreed in writing that as soon as fifty people designated their intention to join in the effort, the Church would be established.  This was soon done and the Christian Church on Walnut Hills was born.

The House of Worship was built on Locust Street (now William Howard Taft Road) between Kemper Lane and Victory Parkway.  This structure was dedicated on September 7, 1884 at which service Issac Errett preached the dedicatory sermon.  The first minister, Samuel M. Jefferson assumed the pastorate on the following Sunday.  This structure was enlarged in 1905 and served the congregation until 1925 when the present Church was built on the corner of McMillan and Ingleside Avenues.
 
The present structure was built under the pastorate of the beloved J. J. Castleberry with Myers Y. Cooper as Chairman of the Building Committee.  It was erected at a cost of a quarter of a million dollars and dedicated on Sunday, March 29, 1925.  In these new surroundings and with these improved facilities this Church continued to bear its effective witness to Jesus Christ.
 
The Walnut Hills Christian Church exists in the community for the purpose of affording opportunity to those who believe in Jesus Christ to worship God, to study the sacred Scriptures, to sustain one another in Christian fellowship, to undergrid the World-Wide enterprise of our Lord and to extend a redemptive Christian service.  It represents the more forward looking of the Disciples of Christ.  It cooperates with all of the service organizations of that religious body and is affiliated with all recognized Protestant agencies of cooperation.  These include the Cincinnati Council of Churches, the Ohio Council of Churches, the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches.  It employs every effective means of expressing the spirit and message of Jesus Christ in our world today.
 
One of the outstanding characteristics of this Church has been the high quality of its lay leadership.  A host of noble men and women have given generously of their time, their talent and their means to create the spirit and the power of this fellowship.  Space prevents the mentioning of these great personalities who have been associated with this Church but they have left their mark.  The fine spirit, the magnificent building, the wide influence of this Church through its extensive support of Christian charities and missionary enterprises are the living memorials of these great souls who have labored in the name of the Lord and their labors have not been in vain.
 
During the ministry of Dr. Castleberry a parsonage on Cypress St. was purchased.  This was sold during the pastorate of Dr. Grafton and the house on Observatory Road was obtained.  In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Edwards gave a very valuable lot on Perkins Lane for a new parsonage site.  The present manse was built in 1951.
