STAFFORD posted by Mike Stafford on Sunday, July 26, 1998
1. Gadius STAFFORD was born on 10 Sep 1789 in RI or NY. He died on 2 Jul 1862 in Wheatland twp, Hillsdale Co. MI. Gadius and Lydia Stafford moved to Auburn Twp, Geauga Co. OH in 1824 and purchased of Perkins, just east of the center, on the Kirtland tract. They lived there until 1838 and then moved to Chardon Twp. They may have moved to Hillsdale Co, Wheatland Twp MI about 1842 but are show in Chardon OH for the 1850 Census. They apparently lived on their son Abrahams farm in Wheatland Twp, Hillsdale Co. MI were both apparently died. The Northeastern Ohio account says Gadius was a soldier in the War of 1812, but I have found no proof. It also places his death in 1865 at age 75 with would mean he was born in 1787 not 1789. However Hillsdale Co MI Burials - as identified by Marker or Record place his death as 2 Jul 1862 at age 71. He was married to Lydia STAFFORD in 1809 in NR Palmyra, NY. Lydia STAFFORD was born on 16 Aug 1790 in Tiverton, Newport Co. RI. She died on 11 Jan 1879 in Wheatland twp, Hillsdale Co. MI. Lydia moved with her parents to Ontario Co. NY at about age 15. She may also have lived in VT. Gadius STAFFORD and Lydia STAFFORD had the following children: +2 i. Reuben STAFFORD. +3 ii. Elmer STAFFORD. +4 iii. Abraham STAFFORD. +5 iv. Zilpha STAFFORD. 6 v. Peace Hulda STAFFORD +7 vi. Hannah STAFFORD. +8 vii. Anson STAFFORD. +9 viii. Susannah STAFFORD. 10 ix. Joshua STAFFORD was born on 29 Jan 1832 in OH. Joshua went west and was never heard from.
