SURNAMES: DeHAULT, DeLASSUS, DeLUZIERE, DERBIGNY
Looking for any information on the Chevalier Pierre Charles DeHAULT DeLASSUS DeLUZIERE. DeLuziere was a pseudonom used to escape from France. He left LeHavre in 1790, and was one of the original French 500 at Gallipolis. Unfortunately he didn't hang around that long - he petitioned Governor Carondelet for some land near Ste. Genevieve in Missouri, and got it. Accompanied by several Loretta nuns, he left Gallipolis sometime in 1791. We are curious how he became involved with the land scheme, and any knowledge of what he was doing there, or resources to look at, would be very much appreciated.

SURNAMES: MOMAN, MAAB, MOAD
I trace my lineage to Judah Moman, born in Gallipolis about 1790; my records indicate that she was married there on 12 July, 1818 to Charles Peyton from Rockbridge County, Virginia. At some time later, they moved to Cabell County, WV where several children were born. Charles appears in the Census there in 1860, but no evidence of the whereabouts of Judah. One of their sons married a Cherokee Indian. In the same Census, she is indicated as having the maiden name Moad/Maab. Today, those names do exist in Ohio. Can you steer me to any references to these surnames and/or information about the Shawnee / Cherokee population there at that time?
