Charles W. COOPER married Susanna J. QUEEN in Meigs County, Ohio. on March 6, 1866. They appeared on the 1870 census but not after that. Their daughter Arminta COOPER (my Grandmother) b 12/12/1886 was born somewhere in Ohio but I can't find out where. She married John W. LUCAS in 1903 in Irondale, Washington County, MO. Jacob Louden NEAL married Mazie Jane O'NEAL about 1849 in Gallia Co, after she died he married her sister Sarah Margaret O'NEAL. Jacob was born October 1826 in Gallia Co. Sarah was born April 1838. They evidently move to Lawrence Co. Kentucky. Any help would be appreciated. My husbands grandmother was a daughter of Jacob and Sarah.

I am interested in finding out more about my great-grandfather, Alva HOUCK's descendants, Richard HOUCK II and Lucinda GILMORE. I have for Richard an approximate birth year of 1848 and the date of his marriage to Lucinda GILMORE of 25 November 1870. I have for his death date only the year 1890 which I think indicates that he was dead by the time the 1890 Census was taken. For Lucinda GILMORE HOUCK I have a birth date of 31 March 1851 and a death date of 14 April 1898. Alva HOUCK was born in Clay Township so this may be a good place to start. I do not know who Lucinda's parents were for sure and wonder if they were John GILMORE and Anna Lee CLARK. Richard HOUCK's father was Henry HOUCK but I do not know who his spouse was. Henry's parents were Felty HOUCK and Susan KERNS. Was Felty his real name? Any information or lead source you can provide would be most helpful. I live in Idaho and do not get to Ohio except rarely.

My great-grandfather was David Harry CARRIER, born in May 1853 in Cheshire, Gallia Co.; he married Missouri Isabella DARST on 12/24/1879 in Cheshire; they later moved to West VA, where I was born. I want to know his parents' names & birth/death info, also their parents' names--whatever can be found. I believe I have traced my ancestry, at least the names, on down to David Russell CARRIER who was born Dec. 27, 1795 in Plainfield New York. Then I run into a gap until David Harry, so I don't know if David Russell was his father or grandfather, or neither. I will be VERY grateful for any info.

I don't know where John Amos CARTER (abt.1877-1966) was born; but he lived his adult years in Galipoice, Gallia County, Ohio. He was a dairy farmer. He retired and received a state pension according to my Dad. His father was Henry Clay CARTER. My dad said that the Carters were Welsh. My Gandmother Ethel Eleanor CARTER STRAUSBAUGH (1898-1985) lived in Fostoria, Ohio. I am looking for information on John Amos CARTER and Henry Clay CARTER his father. He was married to Elizabeth ELLIOTT (I think). I have not been able to find anything on these people. An 1890 census for Gallia County shows a John and a Henry in Gallia county; but I don't know if they are my John and Henry.

In our family's papers we find a copy of an obit of Col. Robert Brown CARTER. ID as Gallia County Pioneer. He died 1/23/1900. Born in Revenna, OH, in 1832. Came to Gallia County at age 18 and lived there till his death. He served in 36th Ohio volunteer infantry from 1861-1862. In Sept 1863 commissioned Colonel of the 2nd regiment of the Ohio Militia and held that position till after the war. He served as postmaster of Vinton. He was married to Jane EWING and had 3 children--Mrs. Ellen BAKER, Hutchinson, KS, Mrs. John R. MATTHEW, Vinton, and George E. CARTER, Rutland. Have been unable to determine relationship. Anyone have info regarding Col. R. B. CARTER?

On 1850 Jay Co, Ind. census Harvey REED was living with all but two of his children in the house with Elijah W. CARLEY age 55 from Canada, wf. Ruth age 57 from N.J., Clarenda 20 b. Ohio, Louisana J. 17 b. Ohio. Is this Elijah W. CARLEY actually a McCARLEY? Or did they drop the "Mc" when they went to Ind.? Or did they put the wrong name on the marriage license or transcription of it? Have an old paper handed down in REED family that has her name written as Mary Jane CARLEY. Trying to find out where mistake is or if name changed.

William HAWKINS married Senor CLARK in Gallia Co in 1823. It is possible that they may have a connection to Ephraim HAWKINS who married Jane CLARK in Gallia Co. in 1830. Later census say that Wm and Ephraim HAWKINS were both from VA and Jane and Senor (or Scena) CLARK were from NY. I think the boys may have been siblings as well as the girls. I am trying to establish that Wm and Senor HAWKINS are the same people as Wm and Scena HAWKINS, who were in Harrison and Crawford Co, IN by 1850. I found another notation in a 1970's Gallia County families book and the people mention that one of their relatives lived in the Rising Sun area and another in Glenn, giving the impression that it existed in someplace in southeastern Ohio.
