Their destination was the attractive home of Miss Louise Gantz, in Forest Hills. After an enjoyable round of games a picnic supper was held on the lawn beside the pool. Journal, Middletown, Ohio NEWS OF SOCIETY Miss Sue Mardas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Madras of McGee Ave. journeyed to Columbus to spend the weekend with former Middletonians, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Vradelis, Saturday night she attended the Sweetheart Ball of Sigma Epsilon Phi of Ohio State University of Beechwold Inn and was elected queen of the ball. Six young ladies were selected from the entire group by three judges who then decided upon Miss Madras. The other five served as the queen's attendants. Miss Madras brought home a beautiful loving cup presented to her by the 1949 queen. |

Journal, Middletown, Ohio Daughters Of Penelope, Ahepa Combine To Honor New Priest Last night 125 members of Ahepa, Daughter of Penelope and their families assembled at Nelva Center for a pre-Lenten dinner dance given by the Daughters in honor of the newly assigned priest of the Greek Orthodox community. A delicious dinner, prepared covered dish fashion, was served, after which chairman of the committee, Mrs. Peter Laras, introduced, Albert Jones, president of Ahepa. Mr. Jones gave a brief but fascinating talk on Brotherhood week. Mrs. Laras introduced George T. Poolitsan president of the community, who stressed that in order to progress, it is necessary to have complete unity and cooperation from every member of the community. One of the highlights of the evening was the introduction of Michael Papadopoulous of Greece, a student at Miami University under the sponsorship of the Marshall Plan. He spoke in gratitude for all the assistance the United States has tendered Greece. Upon being presented the guest of honor, the Rev. John Papadopoulos expressed his pleasure at being honored, and read several passages and symbolic poems written to him by his children. His children are still in Greece awaiting passage to the United States. President of Daughters of Penelope, Miss Dena Eliopoulis was introduced and presented the guest of honor a gold watch on behalf of the chapter. Officers of the chapter were presented and the committee in charge of the highly successful affair, Mrs. Gus Mardas, Mrs. John Demetrion, Miss Mary Johnson and Mrs. Gus Christy. The balance of the evening was spent in folk dancing with music provided by Chris Haggias. |

Journal, Middletown, Ohio NEWS OF SOCIETY Madame Katherine Courey of Middletown left yesterday for New York City where she will be presented Sunday by Nicholas Sevastopoulos, president of Liberty Recording Company in a program of song and dance. Sunday morning Mrs. Courey will broadcast a group of Greek folk songs and modern songs in the Greek tongue. In the evening she will appear before a show sponsored by Manufacturers of Fashion and present three dances; "Jota" a Spanish peasant dance, "Corrido" a male dance and "Toto-Torero" a female dance. Remaining until March 5, Mrs. Courey plans to study with Madame LaMeri, world famous ethnologist. |

Friday for Sparta, Greece. She will leave on The tourist ship Nea
Hellas which is arranged for by the Ahepans and Daughters of Penelope
for members to tour the old country. Mrs. Revelos will visit her
family Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mihalakakos of St. John, Sparta Greece.
She will be gone for three months. Bill Revelos will take the same
trip and visit his family.
