Welcome to Cuyahoga County Ohio's Genealogy and History site. This site is no longer brand new and mostly ready for primetime but a few areas are strill works in progress. We're still getting data online as fast as we can, so do check back frequently for new additions. The Table of Contents lists several ongoing projects and we always welcome suggestions and contributions of more data from little cemeteries to big projects like the area-wide 1930 Census index project or CAGG's Naturalizations Project. We encourage both societies and individuals to participate.

NOTE: if it is not linked, it's 'cause nothing is there yet.
About This Site How this site came to be, what hopes and plans we have for it, and the many people that are helping to make it great.
About Cuyahoga County Map of Cuyahoga and surrounding counties and overview of formation history plus links to other county sites for both Cuyahoga and surrounding or connected counties
Biographies The first item to be added here are scans from an 1894 biography collection for the City of Cleveland. We welcome other contributions to this category.
Births The principle record group here is the Probate Court and Cleveland records transcribed by volunteers at the Cuyahoga County Archives. We have these on hand and will be getting sections up soon.
Cemeteries We already have several in the works and plan to include sketch maps and photos of many of them.
Census Although we are interested in all years of the census, the first to appear here will probably be the ongoing 1900 Census Transcription Project and the Enhanced Index to the 1930 now underway.
Churches This is, for now, a cross reference of the pastors to their churches in 1930 from the Cleveland area. It is also a listing of the churches and their addresses with the pastor listed.
City Directories An often overlooked but very useful source is city directories. We will begin with a transcript of the 1890 Cleveland City Directory and there is a good possibility that we will be able to have actual page images.
Deaths The principle record group here is the Probate Court and Cleveland records transcribed by volunteers at the Cuyahoga County Archives. NEW!!! - JUST ADDED - Coroner Case Files 1833 to 1900 !! We've also added a "How To' page on the Necrology files and obituaries.
History Historical items from the beginnings into the 20th Century.
How To's A section for complete clear directions on various topics and places of research in the Cuyahoga County area.
Interactive A section devoted to how to get to and use the GenConnect Boards for Cuyahoga County and the OHCUYAHO-L mailing list.
Lineage Societies of Cuyahoga County Cuyahoga County Pioneers arrived before 1850, Cuyahoga County Settlers arrived before 1880, and Cuyahoga County Centurions have been in the county for one hundred years or more, beginning at 1881. Check out these pages to see where your ancestors fit in!!
Maps Maps from various time periods for Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, and the State of Ohio. We will have sections viewable online and large images for downloading. Also included here is a listing of the 1906 Street Name changes for your viewing.
Marriages Initially, our first goal is to provide information about how to use the online index at the Probate Court and how to get copies of records you find listed there.
Military Various items of military data from rosters such as our first item, the 103rd Regiment of Ohio Infantry, to pension extracts and transcripts to links and suggestions for research in draft cards.
Naturalizations We have transcripts of two major indexes to Naturalizations for this area and we are working on getting them online. These indexes contain a great deal of information in and of themselves and we will include information on how to get actual copies of the full record for yourself.
Odds & Ends This will be the fun and interesting place with various odds and ends about the history and genealogy of Cleveland.
Pioneers Please see "Lineage Societies of Cuyahoga County" link.
Resources Linklists, libraries, other online resources.
Societies Cuyahoga area genealogy and history societies. If you don't see one listed, let us know about it, including information about them.
Towns Although many people think of Cleveland when they think of Cuyahoga, there are many towns around it and many sections now within the City Limits that used to be independent and still have their own community history. This section includes listings of Cuyahoga towns at various points in time as well as history and data that are town specific.

Lorraine "Sunny" Newsome, my co-coordinator, passed away recently. Shortly afterwards this site was attacked by a MALWARE. When it was discovered, the site was appropriately shut down by Rootsweb. Non-infected files have been uploaded but in the process some files were lost as they were ones Sunny had worked on and I did not have copies at all or have outdated copies. Please let me know about any missing or broken links.
