About us...
C omputer Assisted Genealogy Group Cleveland Area is an outgrowth of a group of Roots 3 users who met in a private home. In 1991, a seminar was held at the Beachwood Library to gauge the interest in expanding the group to encompass other genealogy software programs. The positive response resulted in the launching of the monthly user-group meetings. The earlier meetings covered Roots 3 and PAF programs, and later expanded to include other versions of Roots, Family Gathering, Ancestral Quest, Brother's Keeper, Family Tree Maker, Modem Networking and Computer Research Techniques. In January, 1994, the group adopted organizational rules which outlined our purpose, called for election of officers, and annual membership dues. CAGG grew as more and more people undertook genealogy as a hobby and found that the use of genealogy software makes for easier data entree and retrieval. We are prepared to expand to other programs as interest deems necessary. CAGG meetings are rather like mini-seminars. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with morning program (check meetings for the topic of our next meeting) and continues about 11:00 a.m. with the User's Groups going to different areas of the room. At noon, there is an hour break for lunch. Many folks "brown bag" it, bringing lunch from home for gathering with members for further discussion and making new friends. At about 1:00 p.m., there is a Computer Techniques session.
