Source 1: a letter (Jan 21 1938) from Charles T. Jenkins, of Oxford, Ohio:

William JENKINS I born 1762, died 1833, buried at Okeana. He owned what is now the village - was the first Post Master, Justice of Peace, etc.

His children:

1. Ruth - married John SHIELDS a farmer and storekeeper at Okeana
2. James - married Nancy (?) a cousin. He was a farmer north of Okeana.
3. Evan - married
   1. Isabel HANDLEY
      His first child by Isabel Handley married Alex DEARMOND. Her name was Isabel.
   2. Maria SHIELDS.
4. Kate - Philip LYNCH
5. Elizabeth - William CLARK
6. Rebecca - (your ancestors) married Thomas DEARMOND. Her stone in old cemetary at Shandon states she died Oct 6, 1834 aged 41 years. (More on DeArmond)
7. Benjamin - Sarah JONES
8. Mary - William RAGSDALE
9. William - Martha GRANT (William JENKINS is mentioned in the biography of Alexander Walker DeARMOND)
10. Nancy - Joseph JONES

The witnesses of the will of Reuben GEORGE are children of William 1st. We are descendants of William 2nd. William 1st, William 2nd, and their wives lie in the old JENKINS cemetary on the JENKINS homestead where your uncle Cary lived near Okeana School.

More on William JENKINS, from Miriam GEORGE VAN MASON (undated letter):

William JENKINS, 1762-1833, born in Wales. At the age of 14, he visited his uncle in Ireland and fell in love with his cousin, Susannah WALKER, born 1764. William's uncle was opposed to the marriage because of their tender ages. Susannah was 13. They eloped to America in 1777 and married at the age of 15 for William and 14 for Susannah, then settled in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. William joined the Virginia militia when only 15 years old and served throughout the Revolutionary War, his exploits reading like those of a mature man. After several years in Isle of Wight County they moved to Pittsylvania County where they remained until 1807 when they moved by oxteam to Ohio. He and his family settled in Cincinnati and bought 80 acres of land on the present site of Main Street, which he later sold. He then moved to Butler County and settle on Dry Fork. He died in Okeana at the age of 71. Susannah died at the age of 88.

AZ Hirvel wrote: "Genealogy of Some Early Jenkins Families of Preston County, WV, 1786-1982 by Frances Jenkins Quinn (out of print and she is deceased) says that William and Susannah were conveying land on Indian Creek in Fayette County, Pa. until Oct. 1811. She says that William and Benjamin had disposed of all their land holdings in Preston and Monongalia Counties and by that time were in their fifties. She did not find them after that."
Is the William Jenkins who lived in Butler County OH the same William Jenkins who lived in Fayette CO, PA and Monongalia Co WV?
