I am searching for information on my ancestor, Jesse STEWART and his parents and descendants. I have one report that says he was born in Pennsylvania; he lived in Allegheny County prior to moving to Ohio. I have found unconfirmed information in a contemporaneous biographic sketch of his son, Mahlon, that Jesse STEWART married a Jane JEFFERSON in Belmont County, Ohio. They both died in Gallia County, Ohio, dates unknown, according to the same source. They had 11 children: Mary, William, John, Jesse (Jr.?), Robert, Nancy, Eli, Frank (Francis?), Mahlon (my ancestor), Hamilton, David. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and in politics he was first a Whig, and later a Republican. [Mahlon was the only child remaining alive in 1902 according to a newspaper report about his wedding anniversary celebration in that year.] Mahlon STEWART, was born on either 16 October 1824 or 1827 at Allegheny County (now Pittsburgh) PA, or (according to an obituary) in Belmont County, Ohio. He married Ruth CLARK on 19 August 1852 in Gallia County, Ohio. He died on 17 April 1908 in Bloom City, WI. The Couple had nine children: William Fayette STEWART, b. 06 January 1855 in Jefferson County, OH, Mary Ellen STEWART, b. 11 September 1856, in Black River Falls, WI, Rachel Jane STEWART, b. 25 October (Sept.?) 1858 (?) in Gallia Co. ,OH(???), James Hamilton STEWART, b. 11 February 1859, in Richland Co. WI, Edward H. STEWART, b. 06 September 1860 in the town of Bloom, WI, Rebecca L. STEWART, b. 09 November 1862, Sarah Martha "Mattie" STEWART, b. 08 January 1865 in Bloom City, WI, John M. STEWART, b. 07 August 1867 in Bloom City, WI, Emmett Clark STEWART, b. 30 August 1873, town of Bloom, WI. I am searching for information on Jesse STEWART and Jane Jefferson. One source identifies Jesse's wife as "Jean JEFFERS", who married a Jesse STEWART on 22 August 1811, in Jefferson County, Ohio. Given the similarity in names and approximate locations, there is a distinct possibility that THIS is the correct name of the spouse. Any help would be gratefully received.
