CAILMAN, HARGRAVE, HILTON, JONES, SIMMONS, TURNER, WOOTEN posted by Jane Arrington on Saturday, July 8, 2000

I am searching for information on the JONES/HARGRAVE/WOOTEN/NEWSOM(E)/SIMMONS/HILTON FAMLIES. My great great grandparents, Samuel Jones & Jemimna Hargrave Jones were married in Belmont County, in 1821. One of their children: Sugars T. Jones was married to Elizabeth Wooten, who died, and later to Margaret Hilton. Jemina Hargrave parents' were Temperance & Alexander Hargrave. Temperance was born in Virginia, county, unknown. In the 1960 Belmont County Census, she was 74 years of age. In particular, I have seeking a link to their deceased records, probably from a Church, presuming AME OR ME, Or a suggestion where I could locate cemetery records. Additionally, trying to locate a link on their whereabouts before 1821. Both the Hargrave and Jones families are listed in the Belmont History books as religious and/or educational leaders in Jefferson & Belmont counties. I will trade information from about 1870 of the Jones' family in Pennsylvania with Ohio researchers of the same families. Two of Sugar Jones' daughter married into the Simmons family in Belmont County, Ohio, in the late 1800's. The name Turner is carried throughout the family as a middle name. It may be that an anchestor had a surname of Turner. A member of this family later married into the Cailman family. Most importantly is a source for local records either/and or in Jefferson & Belmont Counties for contact purposes. There is a chance that these family members also were located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. I would like to communicate with current members of these families.

BOSTON, PUGH posted by Linda Mondy on Tuesday, July 25, 2000

I am searching for information about a Jesse Pugh who moved from Virginia to Ohio. He had a daughter Sarah, born abt. 1800, who married a George Boston. I found a land grant for land in Belmont Co., Ohio issued 11/13/1822. I also have this brief sketch of him: This information was taken from: Film 934877, Item 3, Biography of Belmont Co., Ohio. "Jesse Pugh was of Scotch-Irish ancestry, and was born in Londoun County, Virginia, whence he came, about 1800, to Belmont County Ohio. He cleared a large tract of land at the mouth of Pea Vine Creek, and formed a family which later became so numerous in the vicinity that it gave the name to Pugh Ridge. Here Jesse Pugh died, having reared these children: John, Morgan, David, Samuel, Elizabeth and Sarah, all of whom have passed out of this life." "Samuel Pugh was born July 3, 1804, in York, Belmont Co., Ohio. He was the fourth son of Jesse. He died during the Civil War. He married Sarah Pittman (May 3, 1811--March 21, 1875, daughter of Jacob Pittman). They were parents of the following children: Edwin, Edward, Morgan, Melinda, Gordon, Samuel, Rebecca Jane, Sarah Ann, Helen, Clarissa, Louisa, Elizabeth,Matilda, Thomas J., and Lovina E."

LAMP, SEECRIST, SPETH posted by Cheryl on Monday, July 31, 2000

I am looking for any information on the wife of Johann George Lamp. Johann was born 1763 in PA. and died after 1840 in Belmont Co. Ohio. I heard that at one time he lived in Frederick Co. Virginia and he and his wife sold land to a son there before moving to Belmont Co. Ohio. All I know about his wife is that she was from the Powhahton Tribe and her name was Elizabeth. I don't believe there were any marriage documents since she was Native American and back then the marriage wasn't considered legal. Does anyone have any information on her? Where was she born? Where did she die? How do they know she was Shawnee? are there any documents out there that mention her as being the wife of J. George Lamp? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks, Cheryl, [email protected]
