JENKINS, PHILIPS, PHILLIPS posted by Herb Phillips on Thursday, January 28, 1999

Belmont Co., is in close proximity of the area I am searching. This is a long shot in the dark, but I will give it my best try. I am researching the PHILIPS/PHILLIPS line. But, I don't have much to go on. The line stopped with my father: Francis Murray PHILLIPS. His birth certificate states PHILIPS. He grew up spelling it PHILLIPS. His father listed on the birth certificate was Ray PHILIPS. All the information we have is by bits and pieces inadvertently disclosed by my grand mother Evo JENKINS d. 14 Feb 1979. Any information ended with her death. The following is information I have on him: His possible birthplace may be Williamsport, PA. His family supposively lived in the southwestern part of PA. He was 23 years old in 1924 when he supposively married Evo JENKINS. He supposively died in Jun/Jul 1925 in PA--construction accident. His occupation at the time of meeting Evo JENKINS was as a showman or carnival/circus worker. He supposively had black hair and blue-gray eyes. According to Evo, when living, they went up the Ohio for about 1 1/2 hour drive to get married. All research of data in counties along the Ohio river have produced no records. Therefore, not marriage could have taken place and Francis Murray was born out of wedlock. This is possible since there was so much secrecy surrounding his father--back in the early 20s, birth out of wedlock was not condoned--thus, a stigma could be attached. I am asking you since you are in close proximity of that area and the lines may have cross or stories told about a PHILIPS traveling in Kentucky and got some lady in trouble. Any information would be most helpful. Thanking you in advance.
