Joshua MERRILL b. 8 April 1791 m 1 Feb 1816 Columbus, Ohio Rhoda CROSSON, dau of Samuel Crosson and Cornelia SAMPSON. Did they have other childern besides Rhoda? Where did this family come from to Ohio? Cornelia was buried in the rear of a small brick Methodist Church at Burtons Station 6 miles east of Barnsville, Belmont County, Ohio. Have also seen reference to Margaret SAMPSON who m and reared a large family and perhaps moved to Missouri. Who were her parents? What about Thomas Crosson who was a minister with Wesrlyn Connection and a Nehimiah Crosson B Belmont County and died there age 80, large man 6'7", 350 lbs. Where could I find a obituary for him in Belmont County as I have no dates for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Will be happy to exchange data I have.

BYRD: My father was Robert, Sr. and his father was Walter. Would you have or know how to find family info prior to Walter? There were some Murphy's in there some place...... Walter live in the Martins Ferry area and Robert, Sr. was in that same area, prior to Riverview and Bellaire. Might have come over from Wheeling area(?)> THOMAS: My Grandfather's name was Frank John Thomas, Sr. Would you have any history prior to Frank? His wife's name was Lillian. They lived in Bridgeport for a number of years. Prior to that they kive in Riverview. Might have come over from Wheeling(?).

Thomas MAJOR, born 31 Jan 1772, probably in Maryland. He married Margarett ?. They were in Belmont County by 1810 when "Mrs. Thomas MAJOR" was a founding member of Salem M.E. Church in Kirkwood Township. Margarett was still living in 1850. Thomas died 17 April 1854, buried at Salem. Had at least eight children: Mary, John, Isabel and Robert are the only ones whose names are known. Mary wed John MUMMA; John wed Sarah GROVES; Isabel married ? SPENCE(R); Robert wed Eleanor or Ellen ?. Any information on other children or descendants would be appreciated.

My grand father, Fred BARTH, was born in Belmont Co. in 1882. His parents were Charles BARTH and Mary MOWERY. Fred married Ella Smith in Lancaster, Ohio in 1906. My mother was their only issue. They divorced with-in 2 years and Fred was never heard from again by our family.

My grandfather's name was Jennings DUKE. He was born on September 17, 1900 in Bridgeport (Belmont County), Ohio. His birth certificate says that his father was named Fred MAAG and his mother was Lena L. DUKE. Does anyone have any information on Fred, Lena or other possible connections? Thanks for any help

Abraham BARRETT and Elizabeth HENDERSON were married in Belmont Co. 22 Jan 1805. Both were born in PA. Is this the same family as is in the 1820 & 1840 Bartholomew Co, IN census and/or in the 1860 Mercer Co., MO census? Absalom BARRETT is listed in the 1850 Mercer Co census with wife Elizabeth, same birth date (1786), and from PA. Are they the same person? Thanks for any info anyone can give me.

Seeking information on John AYRES of the Richland Twp. on the 1830-1840 Census, this may well be the father of my next search William AYres/Ayers of the1840/1850 census. Also Richland Twp. In 1850 Census of Belmont Co, is Samuel Ayers, William AYERS but no John. in stead is a Obadiah AYERS/AYRES. In 1840 Richland Twp. all are there. What is the relationship of these AYERS families, Please help if you have any info, Did these families come from PA? Are they all on the 1860 Census? Was William or John married to Nancy from Va? I think this is my William and John and if Nancy is a wife and in 1860 they are no longer on this census they may well be found in Schuyler Co. Amos MORGAN was married to Caroline HUNTSMAN on May 8, 1851, in Belmont County. He appears on the Belmont county census in 1850, but I have no idea who his parents were. Caroline's parents were John and Elsie KINNEY HUNTSMAN, both from Belmont Co, who married Jan. 22, 1835. Can anyone recognize these people and help me with Amos' parents? Thanks

Robert L. NEWLIN married Sarah J LAKE on March 22, 1877 in St. Clairesville. I can find nothing on the parents of either of these people. I do know that they divorced (wasn't that shocking?) and both remarried ...Robert to Mrs. Emma Shallcross on March 16, 1893 and Sarah to John W. Riley on Dec. 14, 1882. Does anyone sound familiar?

Amos MORGAN was married to Caroline HUNTSMAN on May 8, 1851 in Belmont County. Their Daughter, E. Euphemia, was born in 1857 in Belmont Co and married Rezin A. BERRY. Amos appears on the 1860 Belmont Co census, but I know nothing of his parents. I can find nothing on the parents of his son-in-law Rezin, either.

Theodore MCKNIGHT (b. 1816 in Va.) married Harriet CURTIS (b. 1820 in Oh.) on 13 Dec 1838 in Belmont Co., Ohio. Harriett CURTIS was the daughter of Thomas and Francis "Fanny" (ST. CLAIR) CURTIS. Theodore and Harriett (CURTIS) MCKNIGHT had ten children, all except the last one are believed to have been born in Belmont County. They are: Francis A. (1840), Nancy (1841), Mary Emily (1843), Thomas Irwin (1845), Martha (1847), William Asbury (1849), Sarah (ca 1852), Clare B. (ca 1854), Bell (ca 1857) and Siegle (ca 1862). Seeking info regarding Gilbert MELLOTT. At some point he moved to WV, but he was probably born in Ohio. He married a Mary Mobley. They had six children: John, William, Elmer, James, Cristina, and Sadie. James was born 1896 and died 1974.
