Seeking info on the STEIGER name. Have newspaper clipping with dateline St. Clairsville that talks about Amos Steiger of Shadyside, last of a family of 22 Monroe County brother and sisters who died. Other siblings were Carrie, Ruben, Julis,Charles(my ggfather), Henry,Llewleyn, Priscilla, Everett, and Esther. Amos STEIGER probably died in the late 1960's to mid 70's. Can you help?

Elizabeth Augusta Bowls CARTER was born at Bellaire, Belmont Co., OH, on 31 MAY 1843. She was a daughter of Wm. CARTER Jr.(1795- 1884)and Nancy SEVERE (1803-1888). Elizabeth's third given name, BOWLS, mav have had a family connection. She married James LYNN (1825=1905) at Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1856. I share.

Nicholas MARING, born 1822, Belmont County, was married in 1845 to Hannah RUBLE, born 1821, Belmont County. Their children were Maria Louisa, Francis Newton, Seaberry Ford (my ancestor), Nancy Ellen, Alma Eliza, John Wesley, and perhaps Alvia. Nicholas and Hannah settled in Appanoose County, IA, before 1856. Nicholas died in 1864 in the Civil War and is buried at Little Rock, AR. Hannah died in 1872 and is buried at Exline, IA. Was Nicholas a son of Moses MARING, born New Jersey about 1797, and Mary Ellen MONROE, born Delaware about 1799? Both died in Appanoose County and are buried at Exline. Is anyone researching these families? Is there a MARING family association?

Joseph KINKADE married Sarah Jane MARING (both born 1826 Belmont or Monroe County) in 1847 in Monroe County. Their children were Leander, John, Jacob, Mary Ann, Loretta Belle (my ancestor), Eleanor, Jennie, Lucinda, Maggie, Kate, Charles and Lydia, all born in Mornoe County. The family moved to Appanoose County, IA, after 1864. Joseph and Sarah Jane died there in 1915 and 1918. Is anyone researching this family?

In the 1880 soundex of Ohio, Belmont County, Peass Township, is a Lue MARTIN, female, age 5, enumerated with Leander NIXON as a stepdaughter. Amanda MARTIN divorced wife of Perry MARTIN, had a daughter named Lue. Amanda remarried to ? (possibly Leander NIXON). Can anyone verify this for me? Thanks!

Can you look up to confirm Emmett Walter MCGAUGHEY, B:29 Jun 1881 in VA, as son of Cyrus Albert McGaughey B:1853 who was M:Harriet Caroline PHILLIPS B:1857 of Belmont Co.OH? His other sibilings were born in Belmont Co, and are listed in the OH census, but 1880 is too early, for E.W. and by 1900 he seems to have left home. My grandfather's family all moved from Belmont Co, OH to Brown Co, IN. According to the census records they originally came from Maryland to Belmont Co, OH. I'm looking for the parents of Dr. Samuel Carlton Wilson. Samuel C. Wilson was born on 18 Dec. 1831 in Bellaire, Belmont Co, OH He married Mary Ann Campbell on 18 Jan. 1858 in Brown Co, IN He died on 5 August 1900 in Brown Co, IN. Dr. Samuel C. Wilson was active during the Civil War. He went to the battlefields and brought home the wounded Brown Co. boys in a wagon. His original log home is still standing in Brown Co. It is currently owned by a college professor who uses it as a weekend home. Mary Ann Campbell Wilson was the daughter of Joseph Campbell and Harriett A. Deaver. Mary Ann Campbell was born 8 Oct 1840 in Belmont Co, OH She died on 25 Feb. 1910 in Brown Co, IN. Who were the parents of Joseph Campbell? He was born 16 Oct. 1794 in MD. He married Harriet Deaver on 23 Aug. 1825 in Wayne Twp, Belmont Co, Ohio by Aaron Headley, a Baptist Minister. He died 30 August 1873 in Brown Co, IN. Who were the parents of Harriet Deaver Campbell? She was born 20 Jan 1807 in MD. She died on 12 Mar. 1876 in Brown Co, IN. I'm also seeking information on the Artis Family, who are also related to the Wilsons and Campbells. John Artis was born 15 May 1824 in Baltimore, MD., then moved to Belmont Co, OH. He married Adeline Swain @ 1865 in Brown Co, IN. He died 25 Oct. 1917 in Brown Co., IN. John's obituary listed James Artis and Nelly Shweryer as his parents. I don't know anything about them. Adeline Swain Artis's obituary listed Gabel Swain and Mary Armstrong as her parents. I don't know anything about them.

Joseph IRONS, bn.1785-1794 in Frederick Co., MD, married Mary LANE in 1810 and shortly moved to Bedford Co., PA. After living in Bedford Co., for approx. 10 years, Joseph and his family of at least 4 children moved to Belmont Co., Ohio where he was still living in 1844. I'm looking for the family of Laura JOHNSON, sometimes JOHNSTON who married Jacob MATTHEWS in 1891, in Belmont County. She was my husbands grandfathers sister. Her mother Mary C. In the 1830 Census for Belmont County, Richland twp there is listed Margaret BUCHER, males: 1 under 5, 1 5-10, 2 10-15; females: 1 10- 15 and Margaret. In 1840 BUTCHER, Margaret, males: 1 10-15, 2 15-20; females 1 20-30 and Margaret. Margaret BUTCHER was from Scotland, died in Belmont County in 1856. One son was Thompson BUTCHER b. 1826, d. 1909. He married Ruth Ann HULSE in 1855. Their daughter Sara Ella BUTCHER married Ira Robinson SUTTON. BUTCHER was Margaret's married name. Who was her husband? He was dead by 1830 and she never remarried.

My 3rd great grandfather Wesley CRANSTON was purportedly born July 27, 1827 in Barnesville, his father was supposedly a Thomas Cranston who moved to Barnesville about 1812 from either Ireland or Scotland (I believe the latter, Cranston is an old Scottish Clan Name). Wesley Cranston moved to Iowa in 1864. Looking for any records (ie census, marriages, deaths, births, wills, etc.) of Cranstons from about the early 1800's.
