SHANNON posted by David E. Shannon on Saturday, January 10, 1998

My g2-grandfather was Robert SHANNON. His family migrated from N. Ireland>Baltimore, MD>western PA>"Richland, OH">Brown County, IN. Parents were probably Samuel SHANNON and second (?) wife Margaret. There were two older sibs born in N. Ireland: Will and Mary. They were supposed to have "settled down in Ohio" but a William SHANNON shows up in Brown County near the Samuel and Margaret family. Because of other families' connections between Belmont County, OH and Brown County, IN, and because my ancestors travelled by major riverway, I am hoping that their Richland was in Belmont. Whom did Mary marry? Did she and/or Will stay in Belmont County? Who were the parents of Samuel and Margaret? Who was Samuel's first wife?

HATCHER, KELBAUGH posted by Kevin Kelbaugh on Sunday, January 25, 1998

I am looking for information on the HATCHER family in Belmont Co. Ohio. Joshua KELBAUGH came to Belmont Co. in the early 1840's from Maryland. Here he met Mary HATCHER (b.abt 1811). Her father's name was Mahlon HATCHER. or Balam HATCHER according to another source. She was first married to a Mr.McLaughlin, then widowed. Joshua married Mary in Belmont Co. on 1 Aug 1844. They later moved to Noble Co., OH. It is my understanding that the HATCHER family had been in Belmont Co for awhile. I am interested in finding out what Mary's mothers name was. I am also interested in pinpointing the Belmont Co. township that they were from. If it is possible I want to trace back this HATCHER line. FELTER, PRETTYMAN, SHIMP posted by Carol M. Dennis on Saturday, January 31, 1998

I just found the death certificate for my husband's great grandfather whose name was Benjamim SHIMP who lived in Aurelius Township, Macksburg, OH in Washington County, OH. This death certificate states that his parents were Michael SHIMP and Lou PRETTYMAN and states that Benjamin was born in VA. In looking through marriages recorded in Belmont County, I found a Michael SHIMP and Lou PRETTYMAN who were married May 17, 1843. Now I do NOT believe that this Michael and Lou were really the parents of Benjamin SHIMP because he was supposedly born February 9, 1834 (and died April 18, 1915)..... so it does not seem as though Michael and Lou could be his parents, but my hope is that there is a connection which someone knows about and can point me in the right direction to determine who his parents really were. Benjamin married Hannah Elizabeth FELTER of Washington County, OH and they had at least 9 children which I have identified. Will share what I have gladly to help someone else. But sure would like to find the names of Benjamin's parents, where they were from, etc., etc. Thanks so much....... Carol Dennis

Seeking info re: Dorcas ANDERSON, born c.1780 perhaps Frederick Co. MD; believe to be sister of Elizabeth ANDERSON who married Otho FRENCH 18 Feb 1802, Frederick Co. MD. Dorcas, wife of David WAY (my GGG G/F) migrated to Belmont Co. with surviving children in 1819/1820, following David's death. Seven children included Thomas Anderson WAY (my GG G/F) born 17 Mar 1806 in Newmarket, Frederick, MD (who married Mary Ann SMITH 25 Sep 1832 in Goshen Twp, Belmont Co).
