.......James M. Hartley, 73, of Flushing, died Friday in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va. He was born March 6, 1916 in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of the late Samuel M. and Essie Armstrong Hartley.
.......He was a retired mechanic for Consolidation Coal Co., Cadiz, a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 366, Masonic Lodge F&AM 298, all of Flushing, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, and an Army veteran of World War II.
.......He was preceded in death by one brother; three sisters.
.......Surviving are his wife, Margaret Ilene Huff Hartley; a daughter, Judith Workley of Freeport Oh., a brother, Kenneth of Orange, Texas; three sisters, Kathryn Hartley of Morgantown, W.Va., and Mrs. Frank (Mary Irene) Wiland and Jane Cashman, both of Aiken, S.C.; four grand-daughters; seven great-grandchildren.
.......Friends will be received today, 3 to 9 p.m. at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Dale Thomas officiating. Burial follows in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing. Masonic services will be held today at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Eleanor A. Steinman, 86, of Madison; Ala., formerly of Wheeling, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Madison. Surviving are four sons, Charles A. of Wheeling, Frederic J. of Huntsville, Ala., Herbert E. of Springfield, Mo., and John W. of Madison; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends receive 6- 8 p.m. today at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. in Madison City Cemetery.
Her full name was Eleanor Anna Teresa Faulstick Steinman.
She was the ggg granddaughter of Charles Fryman aka Johann Henrich Carl Freymann, and the gg granddaughter of John Thomas Fryman both of whom came to the Richland Twp., Belmont Co. from Shenandoah, Co. Va., in the years between 1800 and 1805. Both were farmers, but Charles Fryman descended from a line of linen weavers from Langenselbold, Hesse.
She was also the ggg granddaughter of Abel Brown and Lydia Stuckey who came to Belmont Co. from New Jersey in the same time frame.
She was also the g granddaughter of Valentine Ferdinand Faulstick and Mary Elizabeth Coleman who came to Wheeling, Virginia from Germany shortly before 1840. They were grocers. She was the gg granddaughter of Michael Long and Nancy Williams who came to Wheeling before 1930.
But most of all she was my much loved mother.

....... Mrs. Besse H. Giffen, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1975, at the Star Nursing Home, Morristown, where she had been residing. She was born May 18, 1887, a daughter of the late Walton and Ella McClure Howell. ....... She was a member of the King Avenue United Methodist Church of Columbus. ....... Preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1936, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Phillips of Columbus; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. ....... Friends will be received at the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Greenwood officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery, Flushing.

Elsie Allice Huff, 83 of Flushing, died Sunday at the Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. She was born Feb. 9, 1896 in Middlebourne, a daughter of the late Frank & Alice Stockdale Bryant. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Flushing and Order of the Eastern Star 269. She was preceded in death by a son & a daughter. Surviving are her husband L.B. Huff; two daughters, Mrs. James (Eileen) Hartley of Flushing and Mary Ellen Huff of Detroit, Mich; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing The Rev. Paul Greenwood officiating. Burial in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing

DOUGLAS, Mary Jane CHANDLER

Mary Jane CHANDLER DOUGLASS
Mrs. Mary J. Douglass died, at her home on East Fourth St., West Liberty, Iowa, Wednesday morning, December 19th, (1906) aged 75 years & 3 months. She had expressed herself as feeling well and had slept well only a few moments before the end came. She was born near Flushing, Belmont County, Ohio, September 18th, 1831, & with the exception of 2 years, made her home there until 1890 when she moved to West Liberty, where she lived at the time of her death. She has been a widow since 1865, her husband, William Richie, having died in that year. 6 children, 4 sons & 2 daughters, survive her, Harvey of Columbus, Ohio, Isaac G. of Holloway, Ohio; Albert L. of West Liberty, Iowa; Chas. H. of Kansas City, Mo.; Luella D. Mott of Forest City, Iowa; and Eva R. Mott of Miller, Iowa. There also survive her 1 sister, Mrs. Anna M. McCall of Belton, Mo., who was with her at the time of her death, and 3 brothers, John and David Chandler of Belton, Mo.; & Rev. Thomas Chandler of Belfast, New York. She had been an ardent Christian all her life, having been converted when in her teens and joining the Baptist church in which she was an active member until her marriage, January 20th, 1853, when she joined with her husband in the M.E. church at Flushing, to which society she continued to be an active worker untill her death. Of late years, being much alone, her greatest enjoyment was in her church and church work.

Harry VAN FOSSEN
Harry Van Fossen, 84 a resident of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Flushing, died Tuesday. He was born 11 July, 1899 in Ohio. He was the son of Oscar & Fanny Van Fossen. He was a retired employee of B & O Railroad worker and a Protestant. He was proceded in death by his wife Pearl Van Fossen in 1965 and a son Bernard. Surviving are a brother Alfred and a sister Mary Belle both of Flushing. 2 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing 7-9 Thursday. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing.

Miss Bessie O. Bethel, 83, Flusing, died Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Bell Nursing Home Morristown, She was born in Sandusky, Ohio, Jan. 7 1885, a daughter of the late Wilson & Eliza Jane Bethel. She was a member of the Flushing Methodist Church and had taught Sunday School there for over 50 yrs. She had been employed as secretary at the Peoples Saving & Loan, Flushing for 30 yrs. Surviving are 6 cousins, Mrs. Nellie Starr, Edith Howell & Marion Howell, all of Beaver Falls, Pa., Mrs. Bertha Goodman, Warren. John Shallcross, Cleveland & Mrs. Helen Workley, Flushing Friends will be received at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, after 3 p.m. Wed. Services will be held Thurs. at 2 p.m. at the Flusing Methodist Church with Rev. James Dyer officiating. Burial will be in the Flushing Union Cemetery.

GRIMES, Clifford

Clifford E. Grimes, 75, a resident of Flushing, died Mon. at his home. He was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Ohio, a son of the late Merritt & Clara Frasher Grimes. A retired employee of Republic Steel Co., he was a member of Flushing Christian church, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 369, and Masonic Lodge No. 298. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Grimes. Surviving are his wife, Elsie White Grimes; a son, William of St. Clairsville, a brother Hobart of Flushing 2 grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing 2-4 & 7-9 Wednesday where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. David Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Hendrysburg. Masonic Services will be held at the funeral home 8 p.m. Wednesday.

....... Duane E. Thompson, 57, Flushing businessman, died Wednesday, May 13, 1970, at 12:15 a.m., at Lakeshore Hospital, Lake City, Fla. He had suffered an apparent heart attack three weeks ago en route to Tampa, Fla.
....... Born Nov. 16, 1913 at Flushing, a son of Hartsell & Nannie Brokaw Thompson, he was a member of the Flushing Christian Church & had operated the Thompson Sales & Service, Flushing.
....... Surviving are his widow, Wilma Humphrey Thompson; one son, Richard of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren; 1 brother, Arthur & a sister, Mrs. Russell (Leila) Cunard, both of Flushing.
....... Friends will be received at the Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, after 7 p.m. tonight. Services at the funeral home will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Stephan Martin officiating. Burial in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing.
