Evan Owen Davies as follows Born 10 Oct 1859   Newtown Montgomeryshire Son of Edward Owen Davies and Elizabeth nee Jones   Both parents came from yeoman farming stock in Montgomeryshire.    His 2 brothers were Thomas Lloyd Davies (my paternal grandfather) and Edward Jones Davies. Family story relates that he left for NZ as a young man but no date available. He apparently married whilst on board ship and settled in Fiji.  He did briefly return to London to float shares in his own company . Unfortunately I have no further details but would love to trace any family associated with Evan Owen or find more details of his passage ? Liverpool

The question:  An Indian Army officer, stationed at Dera Ismail Khan on the Afghanistan frontier in 1860. His regiment the 10th Punjab, is due to be disbanded, so he sells his commission and sets sail for the Red Sea to do some big game hunting.  As a guess how long would it take to get from Dera Ismail Khan to Bombay, where he took passage?  All guesses would be welcome.
