Introduction The Branch provides a number of services to members;- The Branch Research and Help Desk Officers are available to assist Members with their family history enquiries. This usually takes the form of guidance on where to look and how best to use information. Emphasis is on getting members to gain confidence in doing their own research from home, from visits to regional research repositories and using the Branch family history centre (described in more detail in the Resources Section) The Alison Procter Family History Centre at the Paraparaumu Public Library (see under Resources Section) is the focal point of the Branch research resources. Every Wednesday morning from lOam to 12 noon (except over the late December to early January break), volunteers are on hand to assist members with their research and provide guidance on using the resources. Additional sessions are held during the year at alternative times to cater for those who are unable to make the aforementioned times. Use of computers and access to the Internet, has revolutionized genealogy research. An increasing amount of reliable information and access to original documents are available. Special attention to this tool is given by the Computer Friendly Genealogy Group which meets monthly except January. The group provides advice and presentations on computer related topics, searching the internet and documenting research. It does not provide training on computer use - this is the task of other providers such as SeniorNet, WEA, night classes. For members who have hit a brick wall, the Branch offers a special service - Kapiti Gen-Forum. The Branch Research Officer will, given written evidence, endeavor to provide some leads to assist. The service requires a written application with relevant details. The application form can be downloaded from the following page. Click here
