Grieg convenor of Hutt genealogy branch

Hutt News | Tuesday, 19 November 2002, p65

Sandra Grieg [sic] is the new Convenor of the Hutt Valley Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists.

She succeeds Mike Guest who has retired to spend more time on his own family history research after a progressive four years at the top which saw the branch move to a permanent home at the Hutt Bridge Club in Park Avenue.  With that move came the installation of a research facility and genealogical library that is the envy of other branches throughout the country.

Sandra Grieg has been a genealogist for 40 years.  She was formerly the secretary of the branch and is also known for her genealogy programmes on radio and her classes in genealogy.

In what must be a rare occurrence for an agm, November's branch agm attracted a large turnout of 93 people.  The branch has a membership of around 200.  Guest speaker for the evening was Marsha Donaldson, who spoke on documents available for family historians in the Manuscripts Collection at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington and about finding shipping records.

Other officers elected were: secretary, Jenny Mumford; treasurer, John Hewson; committee, Betty Pyne, Anna Kerr (monthly newsletter editor), Lyn Peachey, Lisa Bognuda, Ann Best, Brian Hopkins, Helen Beattie (librarian), auditor Graham Ryan.

The Hutt Valley Branch holds an evening (first Thursday), and a day (third Thursday) meeting monthly plus a research evening on the last Thursday of each month, when the library is open to members.
