Addison Varney

Addison Varney Dies in Hospital

Addison M. Varney, 72, a retired Post-Star display advertising representitive, died Saturday (June 17, 1978) in Glens Falls Hospital.

He resided at 61 Grove Ave., Glens Falls.

Mr. Varney, who retired in 1975, had worked for The Post-Star since 1947. Before joining the newspaper staff, he had operated the J.M. Varney Co. on South Street. The company sold appliances as well as feed and grain.

He was born Sept. 5, 1905, in Glens Falls, the son of Jacob M. and Mary (DeVoll) Varney.

He was a member of the Church of the Messiah; Senate Lodge 456; Free and Accepted Masons; Glens Falls Council 417; United Commercial Travelers; the Glens Falls Senior Citizens and an active member of the Glens Falls Historical Association, serving as a guide.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Rugg; a daughter, Mrs. D. James (Judith) Taylor of Pitman, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Hathaway of Augusta Maine; three grandsons and two nieces.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of the Messiah by the Rev. Schuyler D. Jenkins, former rector.

Cremation will follow at the Gardner Earl Crematory, Troy.

There will be no calling hours.

The family has suggested that memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Church of the Messiah or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, Quaker Road.
