Troy Irish Genealogy Meeting Minutes
October 16, 2014

O’Brien’s Public House, Troy, NY
The meeting was called to order by Gerri Sherri at 6:45. Members
in attendance: Gerri Sherry, Kristin Ayotte, Christopher Philippo,
Chris Connell, Erin Fish, Joan Durso, Noreen Iacabucci, Jan Sullivan
and Bill McGrath.
Two new members were introduced to the group; Erin Fish and Joan
Durso. This was the first time either lady had attended. They each
gave a brief introduction to their genealogy interests.
Gerri reported that we had 285 list subscribers
and 597 Facebook likes.
Treasurers Report had been submitted by Lizette
Strait showing a previous balance of $3,523.35. Expenses were reported
as $100 for membership to the Lansingburgh Historical Society, $125
membership to the RCHS and $25 still outstanding to the Irish American
Museum for membership. A deposit of $60 was made, Petty Cash stood
at $21.63. Current Balance of $3,583.34. Total Paid Membership =
100
Bill McGrath discussed finished and on-going
projects.
1. Marriage Notices in 10 Lansingburg newspapers
from 1787 – 1895, comprising 5903 records, the Bride and Groom
records have been matched by TIGS Volunteers and now any problems
found are being resolved. An introduction to the data base will
be prepared and data set up for Jeanne Keefe to put up in groups
of 250 or less.
2. Death Notices from those same papers total
9683 names with 495 referencing alternative surname spellings. An
introduction to the data base has been completed and data set up
for Jeanne Keefe in groups of 250 or less.
3. St. Johns Cemetery – Albany 46 years
of interment records total 12,731 names from 1841-1887 have been
transcribed. Nearly all Irish with first generation Irish numbering
3208 that were identified by county and 500 with no county identified.
Introduction to the data base was competed and all files sent to
Jeanne Keefe, total 60 files, to be put on website. We are getting
much publicity in the Irish press and on genealogy related websites,
blogs, etc. for this data base. Interments found for 31 different
counties in Ireland with the majority in Tipperary (458), Cork (376)
and Cavan (307).
Christopher Philippo updated the group on
the mapping project of St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet
and the wonderful work/assistance given by RPI fraternity. Further
work dates will be set, weather depending.
Chris Connell will identify and set dates
after the holidays for a Waterford Library Look up Day.
The Albany Rural Cemetery tour with Mark
Bodnar is scheduled for this Saturday, 10/18 at 10AM and will run
for 2 – 2.5 hours. We will meet at the main office building.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with
mapping the Lansingbugh Village Burial Ground
New Business: TIGS will once again participate
in the Victorian Stroll by setting up an information table at the
RCHS. Kris Ayotte will post information to the mailing list and
to our FB page.
Next Meeting will be held on 11/20/14 at
the Park Pub at the Frear Park Golf Course.
