4. On-Going Business:

The Spring trip to Ireland is full.

Donna Vaughn is still getting one or two, “How do I?” questions per month.

Potential topics of discussion for the January meeting are:

Suggestions or ideas for getting more paid members – we have 81 paid members vs. 101 last year. There is a discrepancy between the number of list subscribers and paid members. Is there a way to entice more of the list subscribers to become paid members? Dues are low; they are only $10.00 per year. We are currently accepting payment for 2016 dues.

Revamping the Website

5. New Business

Donna Vaughn, Membership Chair, reported that she and Kris Ayotte both have upcoming presentations at which they would like to have TIGS flyers available. More flyers need to be printed.
Discussion regarding cost ensued. It was decided that 500 flyers should be ordered and TIGS should pay the 22 cents per copy charged by Staples or a lower amount if Bill McGrath could find a less expensive vendor. Lizette made a motion to this effect, several members seconded it and the motion passed.

A motion was made by Bob Rainville to pay $100.00 dues to the Irish American Heritage Museum; it was seconded and passed.

Kris Ayotte discussed upcoming events:

Troy Victorian Stroll – TIGS will have a table 11 – 5 at RCHS.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made and was passed.

Subsequent to the November meeting, TIGS was contacted by WMHT, our local public television station. On Tuesdays starting 1/5/2016 at 8:00 P.M., season three of Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will be broadcast. A staff member from WMHT will be attending the January TIGS meeting to discuss
possible TIGS collaboration with WMHT.
7. Genealogical Presentation:

After the business meeting, Jan Sullivan and Noreen Iacobucci presented their research on the Hebert family who were their family’s immigrants from France to Canada in the 1600’s. Since the French church kept excellent records, Noreen and Jan found a great deal of information regarding their early French settlers in the new world. In conducting their research as to how the family came to the U.S., they found that after the French and Indian War, the British required the settlers to swear allegiance to the king. Settlers who did not were transported elsewhere, some to various colonies, some to England, some to France and some as far away as the Falklands. Many died during their transportation or were arrested upon arrival in the their new locations. Noreen and Jan’s ancestors were transported to Guilford, Connecticut where they were able to work as indentured servants and ultimately as free men.

Respectfully Submitted by: Joan Durso, Secretary
