Troy Irish Genealogy Meeting Minutes
November 21, 2013

New Member: Dot Dugan
1. Call to Order:
President Tim Stone called the meeting to order. Dot
Dugan introduced herself and told of her quest to organize the extensive
amount of genealogical information and Irish artifacts she inherited
from her mother’s estate. Two of her family lines are McCormick
and Graham. The group encouraged her to compile her data and to
attend Donna Vaughn’s lecture on genealogy research on March
9, 2014.
List members total 276 and Face Book likes total 417.
2. Treasurer’s Report
Lizette submitted the treasurer’s report that
reads as follows:
The previous balance as of October 31, 2013 is $2,659.25: Expenses:
$10 10/16/2013Ck# 1028 for mass card for past treasurer Rick Shea.
Deposit $40.00 on November 18, 2013: November balance is $2,679.25:
Petty cash is $21.63 making total assets: $2,700.88.
Total paid members: 90 – 2 renewing members and 1 new member.
Total paid members in 2012 was 82.
A $100 donation was received from Daniel O’Connell
of Watervliet. Donna Vaughn will send him a thank you card on behalf
of TIGS.
3. Project Updates
Bill McGrath gave the project updates as follows:
Styles Funeral Home: Book 1 is transcribed, 300 pages
total. A file is being prepared for Jeanne and Bill will write the
introduction. Book 2 – 180 of the 300 pages have been sent
to transcribers and Book 3 is scanned.
St. Mary’s Cemetery Troy Book #5 was sent to
Jeanne to upload to the TIGS website. The introduction is pending.
We require assistance with indexing 11,000 surnames
and subjects in the West Troy Advocate. The indexing must be linked
to 380 scanned pages.
WWII area casualties database is now on the website.
This database was mentioned in two genealogy newsletter: Eastman’s
online newsletter and The Genealogy News Weekly. This coverage generated
a substantial increase of hits on the TIGS website.
New projects pending are the review of St. John’s
Cemetery, Troy and St. Jean’s Cemetery, Troy to determine
if the interment information is not already available through other
sources.
Volunteers are needed to do scanning at the Troy Library
on the following: Obituary notices in Lansingburgh newspapers 1787-1895
volume 1 A-K and volume 2 L-Z and also a book on marriages.
4. New Business
Kris reported the trip to Ireland in April now has
21 people who have submitted deposits. The trip is scheduled for
April 17 – 26, 2014 and is all inclusive for 8 nights for
a total of $2,500 roundtrip. Arrival and departure will be out of
Dublin.
Space at the Rensselaer County Historical Society
has been reserved for TIGS during the annual Victorian Stroll on
December 8. Kris will be at the TIGS table for the duration and
anyone else who would like to volunteer may show up after noon.
New brochures were printed and were distributed for
review. It includes the new web address for the TIGS site.
6. Next Meeting & Adjournment
The next meeting will be at Moscatiello’s Restaurant
in January because parking is adequate. Anyone with suggestions
for a new meeting place should email their comments to Tim Stone.
With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Gerri
and seconded by Donna and the meeting was adjourned.
