TROY IRISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY
Troy, New York

The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society was held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Park Pub, Troy New York. The following individuals were in attendance:

Kris Ayotte

Kay Brearton

Jeanne Keefe

Donna K. Vaughn

The meeting was called to order at 6:50 p.m. by Kris Ayotte, President. Kris noted that many of our local members are currently in Florida.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the January 15, 2009 meeting. The motion passed. The minutes will be published on the TIGS website.

REPORTS

There was no report from the President.

The Treasurer, Cathy McGrath, has reported that the current balance in the TIGS treasury is $1683.38.

Webmaster, Jeanne Keefe, reported that everything is up to date on the web site.

Brad Miter reported that there are currently 203 list members.

OLD BUSINESS

The members discussed the Spring plant sale. A location for the sale is still being sought. Jeanne Keefe will check on the availability of the parking lot of the automotive parts store at Pawling and Mountainview Avenues. A meeting of the committee for the plant sale will be held at Lizette Strait’s home on either May 9 or 10.

The status of the work on the Church Memorial project was discussed. Donna Vaughn has completed work on St. Joseph’s Green Island and will be sending the information to Jeanne Keefe. Kay Brearton has collected information on St. William’s in Troy and is working on St. Peter’s in Troy and St. Mary’s.

The Founders Hill project for St. Agnes Cemetery Association in Menands is proceeding. Jeanne Keefe reported that two record books have been scanned. The information will be put into a data base for the Cemetery Association. On the website, the information will be set up in a manner similar to the Rensselaer County Marriage Index. A form will be developed whereby more detailed information may be requested for a fee from the Association. The data base will contain the name of the deceased individual and the date of burial.

Donna Vaughn has made one genealogy presentation at Knowledge Network and a second session is scheduled on March 31.

NEW BUSINESS

The members discussed concerns about the disposition of records from the Troy churches.

Donna Vaughn has been invited by Molly Nicol to speak on April 30 at the St. Agnes Cemetery Office.

Kris Ayotte has received a request from the Irish American Heritage Museum in Albany to explore ways that TIGS may be able to work with them. It was agreed that an association with the Museum would be beneficial.

Donna Vaughn noted that the Veterans group that had been screen printing TIGS items is no longer in the business. The screen has been given to TIGS and may be used with another vendor.

The March meeting will be held again at this location.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Kris Ayotte and seconded by Jeanne Keefe to adjourn the meeting. The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Brearton, Secretary
