Bill McGrath gave the project updates as follows:
Church Memorials include Lansingburgh Methodist and
St. John’s Lutheran .
Area casualties from WWII are being documented. There
are nearly 2000 names in 8 separate data series. The database records
include surname and hometown for soldiers killed in action, wounded,
missing, POWs. The information was sent to Jeanne on August 5, 2013.
State Street Burial Grounds database went on line
on August 2, 2013. This new database was mentioned in Eastman’s
Genealogy Newsletter on August 15, 2013.
St. Mary’s Cemetery Troy Book #5 is in process
with 159 pages received from Jeanne. Of the 134 pages sent to transcribers,
116 have been completed.
4. New Business
Donna Vaughn reminded everyone the 10th anniversary
of TIGS is in September. Several suggestions were made on how best
to celebrate the decade old Society. It was decided that a volunteer
work group be put together for a September 20th and 21st monument
documentation workshop to be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in
Troy. The oldest part of the cemetery contains stones marking the
graves of mostly Irish immigrants and the information on interments
has been lost. The work group will photograph the stones and transcribers
will record the inscriptions and enter them into a searchable spreadsheet.
St. Agnes Cemetery will provide lunch for volunteers. Donna will
handle the sign up process.
Liz inquired about the process of answering requests
for lookups in the two recently purchased books noted in the treasurer’s
report. It was agreed that requests for lookups be limited to 3
names per list member and full names and approximated dates will
be needed. After 30 days the books will be donated to the Troy Library.
6. Next Meeting & Adjournment
The next meeting will be at Moscatiello’s. With
no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Kelly Grimaldi,
Secretary
