The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society was held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Red Front Restaurant, Troy, New York. The following individuals were in attendance:

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by President Kris Ayotte.

 

REPORTS

 There were no reports from the President or Secretary.

Cathy McGrath, Treasurer, reported a beginning balance in the Treasury of $1234.38. There was an expenditure of $91.80 for printing 500 copies of the TIGS brochure; the current balance is $1142.58 and there is $26.00 in the petty cash account. There are 101 paid members.

Jeanne Keefe, Webmaster, reported that the minutes have been posted to the site and everything is up to date. The newsletter was sent to Jeanne last night and will be available to dues paying members as soon as possible.

Brad Miter, List Administrator, submitted a report indicating there are 198 list members.

The members discussed the cost of printing brochures and decided that it will be done “in house” in the future.

Kris continues to research the possibility of a trip to Salt Lake City.

Mimi Nicotina could not be present and sent a report to Kris regarding the speaking engagement of John McEneny scheduled for October 16 at 7 PM at the Italian Community Center in Troy.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Bill McGrath reported that Volumes 6 & 7 contain 8,012 names and they were sent to Jeanne Keefe to be formatted for the website. When added to the previously transcribed volumes, there will be about 40,000 names in all. Volume 8 contains 1625 marriages for a total of 3250 names. Volunteers have worked up to the letter “J”. Each entry must be checked in the actual marriage record book for the certificate number and date of marriage.

The members discussed the proposed charter changes regarding the list administrator and the webmaster positions. It has been agreed that these two positions could be filled by members who do not live in the immediate area; however, it will require a charter change. It was decided that a ballot will be posted to the website recommending that these two positions may be filled by individuals who are not local. A message will be sent to the list members notifying dues paying members that the ballot is available on the website. Jeanne Keefe will take care of setting up the ballot and notifying the members. Jeanne noted that she still needs photos of the Ireland trip for the website.

Bill also reported that four people have indicated their willingness to assist with the stained glass/memorials project.

 

NEW BUSINESS

It was decided that it is too late for TIGS to participate in the Irishfest.

Bill McGrath suggested that members print out the TIGS business cards and have them to hand out to interested parties.

The members discussed having a table at the Troy Victorian Stroll.

Jan Sullivan discussed the proposed plant sale. It was agreed that late May, prior to Memorial Day, would be the best time to have the sale. She urged members to begin saving plants, potting them and storing them until the Spring. Funds raised could be used to purchase a digital camera to use for projects such as the recording/indexing of the stained glass church window dedications and memorials.

 

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Jeanne Keefe and seconded by Mike Gilligan to adjourn the meeting. The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for September 18 with the location to be determined.

Mike McAlonie shared a copy of a postcard that had been sent to one of his ancestors from James Connolly regarding an appearance he was scheduled to make in Troy.
