James & Ann Griffis
This family was the first to emmigrate from the Cardiganshire County area to
Richville. They arrived in America on June 1849.
Before emmigating to Richville the family lived at the dwelling "Penybane" 
located in Bettws Efan, Cardiganshire County, Wales.
They were members of the Glynarthen Independent Chapel in Penbryn,
Cardiganshire County, Wales before emmigrating to America.
James Griffis was born about 1815 at Llangoednor, Cardiganshire County, Wales
the son of Levi and Mary James. (James Griffis was born Griffith James and used 
Griffith James the entire time he resided in Wales, when he emmigrated to America 
he went by the name James Griffis.) Married Anne Elias 14 November 1834 at 
Bettws Efan, Cardiganshire County, Wales. He died 21 March 1891 at Dekalb, New York. 
And was buried on the 23 March 1891 in the Wayside Cemetery,Richville, New York.
Ann Elias was born 1815 at Troedyraur, Cardiganshire County, Wales the daughter
of David and Margaret Elias she was baptised 1 February 1815 at the Trewen 
Independant Chapel in Brongwyn, Cardiganshire County, Wales. She died 1893 and is 
buried in the Wayside Cemetery.
They had a total of 8 known children, four of whom grew to adulthood.
Sarah J. (listed as a welsh pioneer) born 31 July 1836 at Bettws Efan,
baptised 3 September 1836 at the Trewen Independent Chapel. She married
John D. Jenkins (listed as a welsh pioneer.)in 1859 at Dekalb. She died 
16 March 1910 at Dekalb and is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery, 
Richville, New York.
David was born 1838 at Bettws Efan. Died before 1851.
Evan E. (listed as a welsh pioneer) was born 2 Oct 1842 
at Bettws Efan, baptised 10 November 1842 at the Glynarthen Independant 
Chapel in Penbryn, Cardiganshire County, Wales. Married Mary Lewis 
(listed as a welsh pioneer) He died after 1920 at Dekalb and is buried in the 
Wayside Cemetery.
Margaret was born 6 December 1844 at Bettws Efan, baptised 2 February 1844 
at the Glynarthen Independant Chapel. Died between 1850 - 1860.
James was born 28 March 1847 at Bettws Efan. Died before 1850.
Anne Jane (listed as a welsh pioneer) was born 1850 at 
Dekalb. Married Erasmus Jones (listed as a welsh pioneer) in 1872.
She died 25 July 1916 at Dekalb and was buried 27 July 1916 in the Wayside 
Cemetery.
Ellen M. was born May 1852 at Dekalb. Married C.R. Clark. She died after 1916 at 
Niagara Falls, New York.
Eliza Ann was born 1854 at Dekalb. Died in 1860 at Dekalb. Buried in the 
Wayside Cemetery.
