249. Wesley James Manning was born on 3 Apr 1910 in Hammond, St. Lawrence, NY. He died on 29 Jul 1983. His obituary appeared in Jul 1983 in an unknown newspaper, as follows: "W. J. Manning Dies at Age 73. Gouverneur -- Wesley J. Manning, 73, 16 Austin St., retired assistant superintendent of highways, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday in E. J. Noble Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week.
"The funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at the Burr-Green Funeral Home, Rev. George Cox, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, presiding. Burial will be in Pleasant Lake Cemetery.
"Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon and evening.
"Mr. Manning is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Betty J. Tuttle, Gouverneur; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
"He was born in Theresa on April 3, 1910, the son of Merritt and Gertrude Petrie Manning.
"He attended schools in the Alamoochi School District, and took his first job with W. S. Corbin & Sons lumber and coal dealers in Gouverneur.
"He later drove a truck for Wilmont Scott.
"In December 1947, he began work with the electric department of the Village of Gouverneur, injuring himself while working on a power line in April 1957.
"He rose to assistant superintendent of public works and retired as assistant superintendent of highways.
"Mr. Manning also drove a van for senior citizens at Cambray Courts.
"He was a member of the Gouverneur Senior Citizens and was a licensed New York State hunting guide." He was buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners, St. Lawrence, NY.

Wesley James Manning and Doris May Kittle were married on 3 Jun 1939 in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY. Recorded in Macomb. Two sons died at birth. Doris May Kittle (daughter of Adelbert Kittle and Leta M. Goodale) was born on 2 Mar 1919 in Hermon, St. Lawrence, NY. She died on 29 Dec 2001 in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY. Her obituary appeared on 31 Dec 2001 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: “Doris M. Manning. Gouverneur. Doris M. Manning, 82, of 16 Austin St., died Saturday at Edward John Noble Hospital.
“Born March 2, 1919, in Hermon, daughter of Delbert and Leta Goodale Kittle, she attended a one-room school in Macomb. She became a homemaker.
“She married Wesley J. Manning on June 3, 1939, in the Gouverneur Methodist parsonage with the Rev. J.A. Schofield officiating. The couple spent summers at their home at Black Lake. Mr. Manning died in 1983.
“Mrs. Manning was a member of Gouverneur Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking.
“Surviving are a daughter, Betty J. Tuttle, Macomb; two grandsons, two granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.
“A daughter, Shirley, died in infancy and two sons died at birth. A sister, Gladys Bishop, also died before her.
“The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan D. Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners.
“Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.” She was buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners, St. Lawrence, NY. Wesley James Manning and Doris May Kittle had the following children:
