300. Erwin Chester "Ike" Neil was born on 22 Dec 1920 in Spragueville, St. Lawrence, NY. He died on 11 Dec 1999 in Canton, St. Lawrence, NY. "Ike" Neil, 78, of 40 Gaddis Road, died Saturday at United Helpers Canton Nursing Home.
"Mr. Neil retired in 1985 after 12 years at Kinney Drugs Inc., Gouverneur. He formerly worked for 14 years at Belville Butter and Cheese Factory and for 14 years at Sunnyside Milk Plant.
"Born Dec. 22, 1920, in Spragueville, son of Chester A. and Jane Overacker Neil, he was a 1939 graduate of Edwards High School and a Navy veteran of World War II.
"He married Margaret McFerran on Oct. 18, 1961, in Kirkwood with Justice Julian Campbell officiating. She died Jan. 6, 1988.
"He previously married Marie Blackburn on Feb. 24, 1945, at Edwards United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Hamilton officiating.
"Mr. Neil was a member of Edwards United Methodist Church, a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9484, a 50-year member of Wildwood Lodge, F&AM, and a former member of the Edwards Volunteer Fire Department.
"Surviving are a sister, Alice Poole, Edwards, and nieces and nephews, including Jane Doiron, Hermon.
"A brother, Edwin A., and a sister, Eleanor Griffith, died before him.
"The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Constance L. Seifert officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
"Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at French Funeral Home.
"Donations may be made to Edwards United Methodist Church." He was buried in Fairview cemetery, Edwards, St. Lawrence, NY.

Marie Blackburn (daughter of Maurice Everett Hall and Edna Mattie Woodard) was born on 9 Sep 1926 in Edwards, St. Lawrence, NY. She died on 31 Jan 2000 in Massena, St Lawrence, NY. Her obituary appeared on 2 Feb 2000 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: “M. Marie Mcgowan Bookkeeper. Massena. M. Marie McGowan, 73, of 164 Jefferson Ave., died at 1:35 a.m. Monday in Massena Memorial Hospital. She had been ill for two months.
“Mrs. McGowan was a bookkeeper with Aluminum Company of America for 15 years and with Sperling Furniture Store, Newchannels Corp. and St. Lawrence Transit Mix.
“Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Edwards, a daughter of Philip Blackburn and Gladys Hance, she was adopted as an infant by Maurice and Edna Hall, Gouverneur. She was a graduate of Gouverneur High School and Watertown School of Commerce and married Dennis J. McGowan on Jan. 30, 1948, in Albany.
“She served as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America and enjoyed reading.
“Surviving besides her husband and her birth mother, of Rochester, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Robert Sharlow and Nancy and David Ledbetter, all of Massena; three sisters, Ivadell McGlynn, Lillian Constantino and Judy Haus, all of Rochester; a half- sister, Virginia Skipka, Macomb; four grandchildren and a great- grandchild.
“A sister, Genevieve Tinelli, died before her.
“There will be no funeral service or calling hours. Arrangements are with Donaldson Funeral Home.”

Margaret Lucille McFerran (daughter of Robert Hugh McFerran and Ruth Hance) was born on 12 Nov 1937. She died on 6 Jan 1988. Her obituary appeared in an unknown newspaper, as follows: "Margaret L. Neil, Retired Nurse, Dies at 50. Edwards -- Margaret L. Neil, 50, Gaddis Road, retired registered nurse at Clifton-Fine Hospital, Star Lake, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Edward John Noble Hospital, Gouverneur, where she had been a patient since Nov. 29. Mrs. Neil had been in poor health for several years.
"The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edwards United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tracy Cook, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
"Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the French Funeral Home. The Olin K. Brayton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9484 Auxiliary will meet to pay their respects at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
"Contributions may be made to the Edwards United Methodist Church or the Edwards Rescue Squad.
"Surviving are her husband, Erwin "Ike" Neil; two brothers, James McFerran, Willimantic, Conn., and John McFerran, Edwards; and a sister, Mrs. Leon (Rachael) Bagley, Phoenixville, Pa.
"Born in Gouverneur on Nov. 12, 1937, a daughter of Robert and Ruth Hance McFerran, she was graduated from Edwards High school in 1954 and from the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.
"She married Erwin C. Neil on Oct 18, 1961, in Kirkwood, with Justice Julian Campbell officiating.
"Mrs. Neil was employed as a registered nurse in the operating room of A. Barton Hepburn Hospital from 1957 to 1960. She later joined the nursing staff of Clifton-Fine Hospital."
