Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Eleanor L. Griffith, 77, Dies In
Canton. DeKalb Junction. Eleanor L. Griffith, 77, United Helpers Canton Nursing
Home, formerly of Old DeKalb, died Sunday at the nursing home.
"The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Denesha Funeral Home,
with the Rev. Pamela Hanlon and Floyd Powell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Canton.
"Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home. Contributions may be made to the Canton Area Alzheimer's Association.
"Surviving are two sons, Robert Baker, West Springfield, Mass., and Neil
Baker, San Jose, Calif.; three daughters, Jane Doiron, Hermon, Gayle Griffith,
Cumberland, Md., and Deborah Griffith, Mankato, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Neil, DeLand, Fla., and Erwin Neil,
Edwards; a sister, Mrs. Glen (Alice) Poole, Edwards, and several nephews and
nieces.
"Born in Gouverneur on Feb. 8, 1914, a daughter of Chester and Jane Overacher
Neil, she married Raymond Ford Baker on Sept. 4, 1933. He died Jan. 5, 1948.
She married Manly E. Griffith on Aug. 2, 1950. He died June 22, 1989.
"Mrs. Griffith was employed with DeKalb and Canton nursing homes and
later with St. Lawrence University as a kitchen helper until her retirement in
April 1979, after 10 years of service.
"She had been a resident of West Hermon until moving to Old DeKalb in
1950.
"She was a member of the DeKalb Grange, Richville Order of the Eastern
Star and an active member of the Old DeKalb United Methodist Church." She
died on 26 Jan 1992 in Canton, St. Lawrence, NY. She was buried in
Evergreen cemetery, Canton, St. Lawrence, NY. Eleanor Loueen Neil
and Raymond Ford "Ford" Baker were married on 4 Sep 1933. "Elm
Grove. A wedding reception was tendered for Mr. and Mrs. Ford Baker, Wednesday
night, September 13th, the occasion being held in West Hermon Grange Hall, and
a large number of relatives and friends were present, including several from
out of town, among whom were the bride's grandmothers, Mrs. Overacker and Mrs.
Griffith. The evening was spent in dancing by the younger ones while the older
ones enjoyed visiting. At 11 p.m. ice cream was served. A table at which the
bride and groom were seated was placed in the center of the hall, with the relatives
and friends surrounding. The bride was the recipient of a number of nice and
useful gifts, and were presented with a good sum of money. Then on Saturday,
September 16th, the bride was given a miscellaneous shower at the Baker home,
with Mrs. James Baker, assisted by Miss Lida Weaver, as hostess. the afternoon
was spent playing games, after which a luncheon was served, small tables being
placed and previously spread for the occasion. The bride was presented with many
gifts of remembrance. Those present were Miss Alice Neil, sister of the bride;
Mrs. Roy dushar and daughters, Mrs. Joseph Brunet and children, Mrs. Don Bush
and son, Mrs. Clifford Jay and sons, sisters of the groom and their children;
also the Misses Eliza Day, Doris Poole, Genevieve Brunet, Marion and Betty Smith,
Audrey and Donna Weaver, Mrs. Ford Baker, Mrs. R. P. Baker, Mrs. James Baker,

Baker (son of Judson E. "Judd" Baker and Alida May Thornhill) was born on
27 May 1910 in Hermon, St. Lawrence, NY. His obituary appeared on
6 Jan 1947 in an unknown newspaper, as follows: "Raymond Baker,
37, Hermon, Dies. Hermon, Jan. 6. -- Raymond Ford Baker, 37, a farmer of this
community, died in the Potsdam hospital Monday morning at 8. He had been a patient
at the hospital for one week and had undergone an operation for appendicitis.
"Funeral services will be held from the home of his brother, James Baker,
near this village, Thursday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. George Pillbeam, pastor of
the Methodist church, will officiate. The body will be placed in the McBrier
Memorial chapel to await burial in the spring.
"He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Neil Baker, three children,
Robert aged 9, Jane 7 and Neil 2; two brothers, James and Carl Baker of Hermon;
five sisters; Mrs. Roy (Florence) Dusharm, Gouverneur; Mrs. Joseph (Pauline)
Brunet, Hermon; Mrs. Don (Cecile) Bush, Canton; Mrs. Clifford (Lillian) Jay,
Potsdam, and Mrs. Harold (Marjorie) Shannon, Alexandria Bay.
"Mr. Baker was born in Hermon, May 27, 1910, a son of the late Judson
and Alida Thornhill Baker. He was educated in the Hermon school and was a farmer
by occupation. He also operated a school bus. On Sept. 4, 1933, he married Miss
Eleanor Neil of Richville. He was a member of the West Hermon grange."
He died on 5 Jan 1948 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, NY. He was buried
in Hermon cemetery, Hermon, St. Lawrence, NY. Eleanor Loueen Neil

30.--Mrs. Eleanor Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Neil of Edwards and Manley
Griffith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Griffith of Old DeKalb were married Aug.
2 at the Methodist parsonage, Russell, with Rev. G. M. Pilbeam, pastor, performing
the ceremony.
"The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn [Poole], brother-in-law and sister
of the bride.
"The bride wore a dark blue gabardine suit with white accessories.
"The matron of honor wore a light blue flowered crepe street length dress
with white accessories.
"Following the ceremony the bridal party returned to the home of the
bride's parents where a wedding dinner was served.
"The couple took a trip into Canada and spent a week at Devil's Lake.

Manly E. Griffith (son of Howard Griffith and Elsie
Manley) was born on 1 Apr 1910. His obituary appeared on 24 Jun 1989
in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows:
"Manly E. Griffith Funeral Will Be Monday. Canton. The funeral for Manly
E. Griffith, 79, United Helpers Nursing Home, formerly of Edwards, who died Thursday
evening at the nursing home, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Denesha Funeral
Home, DeKalb Junction. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
"Calling hours will be today 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. at the funeral home.
"Surviving are his wife Elenor Neil Griffith; two daughters, Gayle Elsie
Griffith, Cumberland, Md., and Deborah Ann Griffith, Rochester; one step-daughter,
Jane Baker Doiron, Hermon; two step-sons, Robert Lee, West Springfield, Mass.
and Neil Judson Baker, San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Carlos Griffith, Edwards
and Orville Griffith, DeKalb; one granddaughter and nine step-grandchildren.
"Born April 1, 1910, a son of Howard and Esei Manly Griffith, he attended
school for eight years. He married his wife on Aug. 2, 1950.
"Mr. Griffith served in the Army and was a bus driver for the Herman-DeKalb
School District for 12 years until he retired on April 1, 1975. Before driving
the bus he had a farm in Old DeKalb. After his retirement he ran a small garage.
"Mr. Griffith was a member of the Kendrew and Old DeKalb Grange and the
Christ Church of Love." He died on 22 Jun 1989 in Canton, St. Lawrence,
NY. He was buried in Evergreen cemetery, Canton, St. Lawrence, NY.
