Manning and Theodore S. Bassett were married on 17 Nov 1889 in Canton, St. Lawrence,
NY. "Bassett--Manning.--At the residence of the bride's sister,
Canton, Nov. 17, by Rev. W. F. Ball, Theodore Bassett, a member of the 11th U.S.
Infantry, and Elizabeth Manning, both of Gouverneur." [Gouverneur Herald
S.B.] They appeared in the census in 1905 in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY.
Bassett, Theodore S., Head, W, M, 35, Born U.S., citizen, marble layer; Mary
E., wife, W, F, 31, born U.S., citizen; Mary E., dau., W, F, 11, born U.S., citizen,
at school. [possibly not complete.] They lived at 99 Prospect street in Gouverneur,
St. Lawrence, NY in 1907. Moore's 1907-8 Gouverneur directory lists
Theodore as a millwright, and "Mrs. Theodore" as a mender, with a home
listed for both at 99 Prospect street. Theodore S.
Bassett (son of John Bassett and Elizabeth "Libbie" LaClair) was born about
1868 in Canton, St. Lawrence, NY. He served in the military 11th
U.S. Infantryin 1889. The only Theodore Bassett found in the LDS
transcription of the 1880 census for Upstate New York is 13 years old, born NY,
parents born in France, along with apparent siblings, Edward, 9, and Hubert,
6, in the St. Joseph Boy's Asylum, W. Seneca, Erie, NY. There is also in W. Seneca,
in the "Catholic Protectory", a Fred Bassett, 14, born Michigan, parents
born France, who "works in Printing Office". In Buffalo there is an
A. Winnie Bassett, 17, self and parents listed as born in Michigan, in the Asylum
