He Was Spending Winter In South With Family. Manager Of Hotel At Plessis. Former Merchant at Alexandria Bay, Mr. Ritter Had Operated Hotel at Plessis a Year--His Body Will Arrive at Plessis Tonight. (Special to The Times.)
"Plessis, March 27.--Louis Ritter, 67, manager of the Central hotel here and formerly of Alexandria Bay, died of a heart ailment Friday at 11:20 p.m. in Hollandale, Fla., where he was spending the winter. Word of his death was received here Saturday by relatives.
"Mr. Ritter, with his wife and son, William Ritter of Alexandria Bay, left for Hollandale about Oct. 1. Mr. Ritter had been in good health prior to his sudden illness.
"He was born in the town of Alexandria Oct. 21, 1871, son of Wilson and Mary Pelow Ritter. When he was a young man he moved to Plessis, where he had resided most of his life since, with the exception of 20 years which he spent in Alexandria Bay.
"In early life Mr. Ritter operated a mail service by horse and buggy between Plessis and Redwood. Shortly after moving to Alexandria Bay in 1918 he opened a meat market which he operated there until he took over the management of the St. James hotel. He operated that hotel until a year ago when he came to Plessis to assume management of the Central Hotel.
"On Nov. 6, 1894, he married Mildred Manning.
"Surviving besides his wife and son are two daughters, Mrs. Francis J. (Grace) Webber of Plessis and Mrs. Edwin W. (Leona) Rogers of Alexandria Bay; two brothers, William and Charles Ritter of Plessis; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
"The body is expected to arrive in Plessis tonight. The body will be placed in the Plessis cemetery vault for burial later in the spring. Mrs. Ritter is ill in Hollandale and will not accompany the body. She will return to Plessis after her recovery." He was buried in Plessis cemetery, Plessis, Jefferson, NY. Mildred Maria "Millie" Manning and John W. Hedrick were married about 1943. John W. Hedrick (son of William J. Hedrick) was born on 1 Feb 1870 in Constantia, NY. He died on 16 Mar 1955 in Alexandria Bay, Jefferson, NY. His obituary appeared on 16 Mar 1955 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "John W. Hedrick Succumbs At 85. Alexandria Bay, March 16. -- John W. Hedrick, 85, retired pottery worker, died at 6 a.m. today at his home, 66 Church street. Mr. Hedrick had been in ill health for four years with a heart condition.
"Masonic services will be held at the Giltz funeral home at 8 Thursday night. On Friday, there will be a prayer service at the Belle Isle cemetery grave in Syracuse.
"Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildred Ritter Hedrick, and a niece, Mrs. Donice (Susan) Vanisco, Corbet.
"Mr. Hedrick was born Feb. 1, 1870, at Constantia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hedrick. He spent his youth at Constantia later moving to Syracuse where he was employed by the Onondaga Pottery company. His first wife, Mrs. Grace Manning Hedrick died about 1938. About twelve years ago he married his late wife's sister, Mrs. Mildred Manning Ritter, in Ogdensburg. The couple lived for a year in Syracuse before Mr. Hedrick retired after more than 40 years of service. They then moved to Plessis where they lived for about two years, before moving here.
"He was a member of Scriba Lodge 414, F. & A. M., Constantia." He was buried in Belle Isle cemetery, ___, Onondaga, NY.
