He died on 2 Sep 1986 in Star Lake, St Lawrence, NY. His obituary appeared on 3 Sep 1986 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Lee Hitchman, Star Lake, Dies at 60. Star Lake -- Lee Hitchman Sr., 60, Benson Mines Road, Star Lake, died from a heart attack at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Clifton-Fine Hospital.
"The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Western Adirondack Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Heller officiating. Burial will be in Oswegatchie Cemetery.
'Calling hours will be this evening and Thursday afternoon and evening at the Hawley Funeral Home. An American Legion service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the Star Lake Rescue Squad.
"He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Lee Jr., Star Lake, and Kenneth, Star Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Pelo, Star Lake, and Mrs. Laurie Hitchman, Star Lake; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Walter, Hermon, David, Richville, and jack, Virginia, and two sisters, Mrs. Ione Cole, Gouverneur, and Mrs. Thelma Lutz, Antwerp.
"Born in Hermon on June 6, 1926, son of John and Ida Dodds Hitchman, he attended Richville schools. He married Betty White on May 4, 1953.
"Mr. Hitchman served with the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II. He worked as a truck driver at J & L Steel Corp. from 1947 to 1978, and was employed at the Green Thumb Environmental Conservation program and at the New York State Ranger School, Wanakena.
"Mr. Hitchman was a member of American Legion Post 1539." He was buried in Oswegatchie cemetery, Fine, St Lawrence, NY. Betty I. White and Lee Hitchman Sr. had the following children:
