His obituary appeared on 22 Mar 1968 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "D. F. Durant Dies at 60. D. Floyd Durant, 60, of Lynn, Mass., former resident of Watertown, where for years he was a leader in local labor union circles, died Thursday morning in a Lynn hospital after a brief illness. Death followed a stroke he suffered about three weeks ago. However, he had not been in good health for years.
"The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Reed & Benoit funeral home. Rev. Wiley White, pastor of Bethany Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Redwood cemetery in the spring.
"Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
"Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Laura Manning Durant; four children, D. Floyd Durant, jr., Mrs. Stanley (Phyllis M.) Mattson and Mrs. Patricia I. Miers, all of Lynn, Mass., and Mrs. Harold L. (Shirley P.) Gilligan, 115 North Orchard street; two brothers, Ross C. Durant, Morristown, and Harold F. Durant, Fulton; a sister Mrs. Henry (Mildred) Graveline, Ogdensburg; 12 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
"Mr. Durant was born in Mountain, Ont., June 30, 1907, a son of Orren F. and Delia Clark Durant. He came to Ogdensburg with his parents at an early age and to Watertown in 1932.
"Most of his life was spent in Watertown or vicinity. At one time he was a farmer near Evans Mills and also near Redwood. He had been a truck driver by occupation and was formerly employed here by the Northern Haulers corporation.
"Later, he was a maintenance man for the county at the county buildings on Arsenal street.
"He married Miss Laura Manning of Redwood at Redwood June 3, 1925. Mr. and Mrs. Durant moved from Watertown to Lynn three years ago.
"While here Mr. Durant was a leader in labor unions, particularly in the 1940's. He was president and business agent of the Truck Drivers and Helpers' Local Union, 687, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, and president also of the Watertown Federation of Labor and the Watertown Building and Construction Trades Council.
"He was local organizer for the labor federation which served as the central body of all organized labor groups of the American Federation of Labor in northern New York.
"Mr. Durant's father died at age 60 on Sept. 12, 1947 at the family home, then 513 King street, Ogdensburg. His mother died at the age of 72 on April 19, 1961 in a Canton nursing home." He was buried in Redwood cemetery, Redwood, Jefferson, NY. Buried on Orville Manning lot, with no stone, according to Joyce Manning.
