Doris A. Salisbury and Frederick L. Ayen were married on 15 Feb 1937 in Fleming, ___, NY. "Mr. & Mrs. F. L. Ayen. 42 Years. Evans Mills -- Mr. and Mrs. Frederick L. Ayen, Perch Lake Road, will observe their 42nd wedding anniversary Thursday.
"Mr. Ayen, son of the late John and Nellie O'Hara Ayen of Rossie, married Doris A. Salisbury, daughter of the late Fred and Hazel Manning Salisbury of Hammond, Feb. 15, 1937 at Fleming with Justice of the Peace Reginald Weeks officiating. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Campbell, brother-in-law and sister of the bridegroom.
"The couple later was married in St. Mary's Church, Evans Mills, with the late Rev. J. Karlton Dewey officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sequin of Evans Mills were attendants.
"Mr. and Mrs. Ayen have spent most of their married life in the Philadelphia and Evans Mills vicinities. Mr. Ayen is a retired farmer and a truck driver. Mrs. Ayen is employed by Mercy Hospital, Watertown.
"The couple has six children, Mrs. Victor (Cecelia) Willix, Alexandria Bay, Mrs. Douglas (Cathy) Dickhaut, Boca Raton, Fla., Frederick L. Jr., Antwerp, Steven, Oxbow, Robert of Theresa, Charles, Evans Mills, and nine grandchildren." [Watertown Daily Times 10 Feb 1979] Frederick L. Ayen (son of John Ayen and Nellie O'Hara) was born on 3 Mar 1915 in Rossie, St. Lawrence, NY. He died on 13 Mar 1982 in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. His obituary appeared on 15 Mar 1982 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Frederick Ayen, 67, Former Farmer, Dies. Evans Mills -- Frederick Ayen, 67, of 166 Division St., formerly of the Evans Mills - Philadelphia section, died Saturday morning in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, where he had been a patient since Feb. 9.
"The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Frederick Brothers Funeral Home here. Rev. Edgar Hunter, pastor of the Redwood Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Rossie cemetery.
"Calling hours at the funeral home are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
"Surviving are his wife, Doris, Watertown; four sons, Frederick, Steven and Robert, all of Antwerp, and Charles, Watertown; two daughters, Mrs. Victor (Cecelia) Willis, Alexandria Bay, and Mrs. Douglas (Catherine) Dickhaut, Boca Raton, Fla.; a brother, Francis, Rossie; three sisters, Mrs. Louis[e] Campbell, Titusville, Fla., Mrs. James (Jennie) Fitzsimmons, Watertown, and Mrs. Paul (Mae) Moore, Rochester; and 13 grandchildren.
"Born March 3, 1915, in Rossie, the son of John and Nellie O'Hara Ayen, he attended Rossie schools and worked briefly in Auburn and returned to the Hammond section.
"He married Doris Salisbury, Feb. 15, 1937. The couple lived in Rochester and moved back to the Philadelphia region, where Mr. Ayen operated a farm and a trucking business. He retired in 1972.
"He was a former member of the Philadelphia Grange." He was buried in Riverside cemetery, Rossie, St. Lawrence, NY. Doris A. Salisbury and Frederick L. Ayen had the following children:
