Her obituary appeared on 23 Oct 2003 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: “Muriel I. Durham. Hammond. The funeral for Muriel I. Gates Durham, 56, Route 58, town of Macomb, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with the Rev. William Hart, of DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oxbow Cemetery.
“Mrs. Durham died Monday at her home. Results of an autopsy are pending a toxicology report.
“There will be no calling hours.
“Mrs. Durham was a nurse's aide at various hospitals and for Caregivers of Watertown and also was a self-employed health aide.
“She enjoyed garage sales and dancing.
“Born Oct. 23, 1946, in Antwerp, daughter of Merton and Ella Clifton Brotherton, she graduated from Indian River Central School, Philadelphia.
“A marriage on Aug. 7, 1965, to Robert D. Bailey ended in divorce.
“A marriage on Aug. 18, 1979, to Duane A. Gates also ended in divorce.
“She married Oscar L. "Buzzy" Durham on Oct. 4 at Gouverneur United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Hart officiating.
“Surviving besides her husband are five sons, Randy Bailey and his companion, Toni Ventiquattro, and Timothy Bailey and his wife, Kelly Bailey, all of Carthage; Ronald Bailey and his wife, Stephanie Bailey, Watertown, Waylon Gates and his companion, Nicole Dedrick, Pitcairn, and William Gates and his companion, Brandi Smith, Redwood; a daughter and her companion, Tracy Bailey and Michael Hull, Hickory, N.C.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Mandy and Mark Wilson, Gouverneur; a stepson and his wife, Michael and Lisa Durham, Fowler; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Dolores) Bullard, Cranberry Lake, Mrs. Joseph (Candace) Renaud, White Hall, and Patricia Arnold, Natural Bridge; a brother, Richard Brotherton, Boca Raton, Fla.; 25 grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
“A brother, Donald Brotherton, and a grandson died before her.
“Donations may be made to the American Breast Cancer Association. “ She was buried in Oxbow cemetery, Oxbow, Jefferson, NY.
