353. Lela L. Brotherton was born on 14 Feb 1924 in Munn's Corners, Jefferson, NY. She died on 12 Jun 1994 in Syracuse, Onondaga, NY. Her obituary appeared on 13 Jun 1994 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Lela L. Gordon, 70, Native of Carthage, Dies. Carthage. Lela L. Gordon, 70, formerly of West Lake Road, Skaneateles, a native of Carthage, died Sunday morning in Loretto Geriatric Center, Syracuse.
"A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur, with the Rev. Allan Ferguson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Gouverneur, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
"She is survived by a sister, Doris Viltrakis, Syracuse, and a niece.
"Born on Feb. 14, 1924, in Munns Corners, she was the daughter of Howard and Ellen House Brotherton. She graduated from Antwerp High School in 1941 and from Watertown Business Institute. She married James Earl Gordon on Jan. 19, 1943, in Bethany Methodist Church, Watertown. Mr. Gordon retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in 1986 after 39 years of service. He was a planner in Watertown before being transferred to Syracuse in 1951. Mr. Gordon died Sept. 14, 1990.
"Mrs. Gordon was a secretary for Four Roses Liquor Distributor, Syracuse. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star."
She was buried in Riverside cemetery, Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY.

Lela L. Brotherton and James Earl "Flash" Gordon were married on 19 Jan 1943 in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. James Earl "Flash" Gordon (son of James E. Gordon and Gertrude Kendrew) was born about 1922. He died on 14 Sep 1990 in Auburn, Cayuga, NY. His obituary appeared on 16 Sep 1990 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "James "Flash' Gordon, 68, City Native, Dies. Skaneateles. James E. "Flash" Gordon, 68, West Lake Road, a native of Watertown, died Friday at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
"A graveside service and burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Arrangements were with the B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 77 E. Genesee St. Contributions may be made to Skaneateles Volunteer Emergency Services.
"He is survived by his wife, Lela Brotherton Gordon, and several nieces and nephews.
"He was the son of James E. and Gertrude Kendrew Gordon. He married Lela Brotherton of Gouverneur on Jan. 11, 1943, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Dr. Paul F. Eberly officiating.
He was graduated from Watertown High School in 1941 and was employed as a machinist by the New York Air Brake Co. until his enlistment in the Navy on Nov. 16, 1942. He served with the Navy in World War II from 1942 to 1946. He attended Syracuse University.
"He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 39 years, retiring in 1986. He was employed as a planner by Niagara Mohawk in Watertown and was transferred to Syracuse in 1951. He had lived in Skaneateles since 1953.
"He was a member of Watertown Masonic Lodge, a member and past high priest of the Charles H. Platt Chapter 247 of the Royal Arch Masons, a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Media Temple Shriners, Watertown."
He was buried in Riverside cemetery, Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY.
