53. Charles Jerome Manning was born on 12 Jul 1850. He died on 23 Jul 1926 in Plessis, Jefferson, NY. He was buried in Alexandria Bay, Jefferson, NY. His obituary appeared in an unknown newspaper, as follows: "Funeral Of Charles Manning On Sunday. Theresa, July 26.- Funeral services for the late Charles Manning, who died Friday at his home near here, were held from his home Sunday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. Ernest Bragg, pastor of the Redwood Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.
"Mr. Manning was born July 12, 1850, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Manning. He was married 52 years ago to Mrs. Caroline Buker, the marriage taking place at Oxbow. His wife came to this country from Canada. For years Mr. Manning resided on his farm near Hanson bridge, but his death took place on the farm recently purchased by him near Plessis.
"Surviving are eight children: Fred Manning of Hailesboro, Merritt Manning of Hammond, Mrs. Lyman Foster of Redwood, Chester Manning of Theresa, Mrs. Smith Johnson of Redwood, Mrs. Walter Johnson of Hammond, Miss Kate Manning of Redwood and Carl Manning of Plessis." Charles Jerome Manning and Caroline Buker were married on 10 Aug 1873 in Oxbow, Jefferson, NY. They appeared in the census in 1880 in Theresa, Jefferson, NY. Page 163D. Niles Maning, 55, farmer; Juliette, 64, wife; Charles, 30, son; Caroline, 25, DauL; Charles F., 5, GSon; Maryett, 2, Dau.[should be Merritt, GSon] All born NY. [LDS transcription]. Caroline Buker (daughter of Nathaniel Buker and Almira Baldwin) was born on 2 Oct 1855 in Bishop's Mills, Ontario, Canada. Also seen as Smith Falls. She died on 15 Jun 1932 in Redwood, Jefferson, NY. Her obituary appeared on 16 Jun 1932 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Mrs. Caroline Manning Dies. Theresa, June 16.--Mrs. Caroline Manning, 77, widow of Charles Manning, died at the home of her son, Clark Manning in Redwood Wednesday, of the infirmities of old age. She was born Oct. 2, 1855, at Bishop Mills, Ont., a daughter of Nathaniel and Almira Buker. she came to the United States as a girl and was married to Charles Manning Aug. 10, 1873.
"She had seven children, six of whom are living. They are: Fed Manning, Gouverneur; Mrs. Lyman Foster, Redwood; Chester Manning, Theresa; Mrs. Smith Johnson, Redwood; Mrs. Walter Johnson, Hammond; Caroline Manning and Carl Manning of Redwood. The husband died six years ago.
"The funeral will be held Friday at 2 from the home of Mrs. Smith Johnson in Redwood. Rev. W. J. Hancock of Plessis will officiate. Burial will be made in the Redwood cemetery." She was buried in Redwood cemetery, Redwood, Jefferson, NY. Caroline's last name is also seen as Baker, Bauker, Bucker, etc. Charles Jerome Manning and Caroline Buker had the following children:

Kate Manning was born on 5 Oct 1894 in Theresa, Jefferson, NY. She died on 27 Dec 1991 in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, NY. Her obituary appeared on 28 Dec 1991 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "KATIE B. MANNING DIES AT AGE OF 97. OGDENSBURG. Katie B. Manning, 97, died Friday morning in the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center.
"Funeral arrangements, incomplete at this time, are being made through LaLonde-Briggs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery, Redwood.
"Miss Manning was born in Theresa on Oct. 5, 1894, a daughter of Charles and Caroline (Buker) Manning. She attended local schools in Theresa.
"She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
"Four brothers, Fred, Chester, Merrit and Carl; and three sisters, Agnes and Clara Johnston, and Juliet Foster died previously.
"She was a practical nurse, working in various homes, and was a member of the Redwood Methodist Church." She was buried in Redwood cemetery, Redwood, Jefferson, NY. This must be the "Caroline" referred to in her mother's obit.
