R. Devendorf Dies. Gouverneur -- Mrs. Anna Rozella Devendorf, 73, Elmdale, widow
of William Devendorf, died Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Gouverneur Edward John
Noble Hospital.
"The funeral was today at 1 p.m. at the Burr-Green Funeral Home, with
Rev. William A. Masters and Rev. James Redstone officiating. Burial was in Pleasant
Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners.
"Surviving are three sons, Delbert and Ronald, both of Gouverneur, and
Donald, Woodbridge, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Elwood (Dorothy) McIntyre, Syracuse,
Mrs. Wayne (Shirley) Clarke, Manlius, Mrs. Forrest (Beverly) Rice, Gouverneur,
and Mrs. Norman (Ruth) Haggart, Virginia; a brother, Irving Smith, Harrisville;
a sister, Mrs. Douglas (Dorothy) Cunningham, Oxbow; 20 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter,
and nieces and nephews.
"Born in the town of Macomb Dec. 19, 1902, daughter of Nathan and Anna
Brotherton Smith, she attended schools at Rossie, Macomb, and Gouverneur, and
married William Devendorf at Antwerp." She was buried in Pleasant Lake
Cemetery, Brasie Corners, St. Lawrence, NY. Anna Rozella "Rozella"
Smith and William Byron Devendorf were married on 30 Jun 1926 in Antwerp, Jefferson,
NY. County Clerk Register #12702. William
Byron Devendorf (son of Byron Alonzo Devendorf TWIN and Martha Jane Taitt)
was born on 17 Jan 1895 in Macomb, St. Lawrence, NY. He died on 22
Aug 1946 in Pierces Corners, St Lawrence, NY. His obituary appeared
on 23 Aug 1946 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows:
"W. B. Devendorf is Dead at 51. Gouverneur, Aug. 23.--Funeral services
for William Byron Devendorf, 51, Pierces Corners, who died at his home suddenly
of a heart condition Thursday morning while asleep, will be conducted Saturday
afternoon at 2 (E.D.T.) from the Methodist church, Pierces Corners. Rev. Charles
Shumway, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in Brasie corners cemetery.
"Mr. Devendorf was born Jan. 17, 1895, the son of Byron and Martha Devendorf
in the town of Macomb. He attended schools in that area. Mr. Devendorf had been
an employee of the town of Macomb driving town trucks for the past several years.
On June 30, 1926, he married the former Miss Anna Smith, who survives.
"Surviving him besides his wife are seven children, three sons, Delbert,
Donald and Edwin; four daughters, Dorothy, Beverly, Shirley and Ruth all of Pierces
Corners; one brother, Herbert Devendorf, Gouverneur; four sisters, Mrs. John
Rayburn and Mrs. Edward Seymour [Simmons], Depeyster; Mrs. Hardy Colburn, ruby
corners; Mrs. Ira Hutton, Ilion." He was buried in Pleasant Lake Cemetery,
Brasie Corners, St. Lawrence, NY. He served in the military during
