- NOTES: The New York State Library acquired these manuscripts through several different accessions during the late nineteenth century. The manuscripts have no single common source, but represent the miscellaneous manuscript holdings of the State Library prior to the 1911 fire, which destroyed much of the Library. - ABSTRACT: A diverse collection of individual documents relating to New York State and United States history. Included are such items as a treaty between Sir Wiliam Johnson and the Seneca Indians; a 1790 list of weekly expenditures of the family of President George Washington; a 1780 return of Peter Bellinger's regiment of militia; a statement by Robert Ballingall, a loyalist, relative to estates in South Carolina; an agreement between Samuel Kirkland and Colonel Sanger regarding land; the accounts of the Union Colony Association in Potsdam, N.Y.; a political cartoon from one of the Presidential race between William Henry Harrison and Martin Van Buren; general orders of General Stephen Van Rensselaer; subscriptions for a portrait of William L. Marcy; a certified copy of the act of incorporation of the Vermont Historical Society; the will of Philip Schuyler; a letter from Sir Henry Clinton to Lord Germain; a manumission of one of Isaac Bogart's slaves; records relating to the support of British troops in the Carribean; a return of the Vermont Militia dated 1839; and a number of other materials.
