Gideon Chilson, Waterloo, Seneca Co., NY
Gideon Chilson enlisted
at Waterloo on Sept 15, 1861 in the 50th NY Engineers at age 38. He was
mustered out June 1864 at Ithaca, NY. He then goes to Wayne Co,MI where
he enlisted in Detroit in the 24th MI Vols, Co "C" Jan 6, 1865 and
served with this unit till June 30, 1865. The 24th MI is noted as the
unit that escorted Lincoln's body home for buriel. He was a carpenter by
trade.
